Topic Other Boards / Foo / anyone work in education ?
- By lel [gb] Date 15.06.04 12:32 UTC
Does there happen to be any teachers, helpers, assistants, office staff, mid-day helpers, cleaners ( anyone at all)  who works within the educational sector ?
I am working on a 10,000 dissertation looking into the protection of such employees from incidents of violence ( whether it be from pupils, parents, visitors, co-workers etc).
If anyone can direct me to further information on policies, procedures and most importantly statistics I would be eternally grateful. :)

Thanks Candie :)

Are you equipped with different policies for different schools or are you with an agency - if so do they supply you with their own information?

and one last point - do you have any training on things such as this at teacher training college?

hi lesley
I'm with several agencies who give you a rough contract covering things like times, pay, etc but the union are the ones who have the proper policies on issues like this.As a supply teacher you are given guidelines on the school day, basic discipline proceedures etc but not policies.

Hi Lel

I teach students with severe behavioural problems including aggression. I have taken part in a number of research projects to discover the triggers to violent behaviour and the methods which help to calm and defuse potentially difficult situations. Cambridge University have just completed a big project on this - you could try writing to them to get some of the feedback - or ask for some (non confidential) data from the Educational Phsychology service in your area.

there is a training programme called Team Teach which uses positive holding techniques to prevent violent outbursts - I don't have their address but there mey be some information on the web. They will have lots of info on the subject.

All the Teaching unions will have information on violence in schools  and can provide you with the type of info you need for your project.

Good luck - it is a fascinating area to work in - but boy do I need a cuddle from the dogs at the end of the day !!
