Hi I get very bad cold sores but not on my mouth on and inside my nose and have found taking a combination of vitamin C zinc and L-Lysine(from Holland and Barrett) which is an amino acid have lessened them greatly. Also find that superdrugs own make of lip and cold sore cream helps ease them quite quickly for me.HTH Gillian

I get them alot too :(
The sun brings them out -so I use a high factor sunscreen for lips all the time -especially on windy days and this seems to help alot -I always know when I've forgot because I feel *that* tingle -then I slap on the zovirax ( I know its not herbal but if you catch it early enough it works )

Hi Sponge and co  :-)...not sure how old you are, my son (and niece) both now 26 were  plagued with coldsores and if it is any consolation have more or less grown out of them. The problem seem to be a lot worse when people are ill or their antibodies are lowered  for some reason this  includes when you are stressed.  It is important to have a diet rich in vitamin C and antioxidents to boost you own immune system and to enable any coldsores to heal quickly.... so lots of fresh fruit and veg and I
understand Echinacia (health food shop) also helps. My son tried Zovirax  the one you put on before it comes when you have a tingle ...did not work too well. If all else fails use a conceal stick..Rimmel £1:99
:-D

Hi reddoor thanks for that but think I'm a little to old to grow out of them now (wrong side of 4*)but just thought I would say I too find that Zovirax doesn't work to well for me. :) Gillian

mmm Gillian..:-) when my son was small the doctor told us most children who have the virus get it when being kissed by elderly relatives who have themselves got the dormant virus..does that mean you are still kissing old men ?????   :-P

Once you have the virus ,it lies dormant be it up yer nose or on your lip -it depends how quick you catch it with the zovirax , if its already blistered -you've had it ! If its gone all gunky -then aftershave will dry it out -Stings like hell but smells great :D   I'm going to try the zinc supplements to ward them off ;)

Hi CW :-) son did the 'apply when tingles' bit with Z cream... and the 'after shave war dance' but they did not work :-(

my partner suffers from bad cold sores and he looked on a web site and found this stuff which is supposed to heal them quicker and can stop further attacks. It did work very quickly and he has only had one further attack in 2 yrs.Its quite pricey about £20 for a tiny bottle but it worked .Can't do link but type in vira medx.

I know it not herble but use a dab of Rimmels lip lock lipstick locker right on the cold sore. It stings, but will make it go away.

hope it helps, luv dollydaydream xxxx

P.S dont use the brush use some tissue or a clean finger.
