My leo is very itchy, shes always stratching, shes been flead and wormed.
I heard that using the wrong dog shampoo can cause itchy skin?

is there a good decent dog shampoo, that cures itchy skin, and persistant scratching, that i can buy anywhere??

Hi guest :-) ..Malaseb wash from he vet to clear the problem..then a good T Tree or Aloevera dog shampoo (not human) and look at the diet, this may be the root cause of the problem. Join C Dogs and chat :-D

It's very likely that your dog has an allergy, this could be food or environmental eg hay fever which shows as itching in most dogs.  You could try eliminating irritants from her diet first the easiest way is to use only chicken and rice very hypoallergenic and if this works try re introducing dirrerent food until you get a reaction - then find a complete food without her triggers.

If the food doesnt work it could be external, dust mites allergies are quite common and very difficult to treat.
You can get a course of injections from your vet to desensitise your dog but this has to be specially made for each allergy.  Only works on 70% of dogs!

Hope you get to the bottom of this soon

chicken and rice would be great, as long as the dog is not allergic to chicken or rice of course............................

Go to the vet, take a blood test and send off to Yorktest to discover if the dog is definitely allergic to any particular proteins, this way the offending item can be removed from the diet immediately and so relieve the itching.

Environmental allergies are more problematic but can be treated with desensitisation injections and/or tailor made homoeopathic treatment.
