Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Worried...what do re-homers look for?

I am hoping to get a springer spaniel from springer rescue, i will apply when my current dog is a bit older. I know i will need to go through a vetting procedure, but what do they look for? I already have a one year old springer and can work up to 8 hrs a day on the odd occasion, but when i have to work these longer shifts family always come round to check on him, take him to the park, or let him in/out if the weather changes etc.  Will this go against me? Although having a second dog will mean that neither of them will be left alone and i only work evenings/nights so i have all day at home. I also live in rented accomodation is this considered 'unstable'. Do re-homing societies need proof of working hours, income etc? Any advice would be welcome.

I can only speak for myself.  When I vet a home for breed rescue my criteria is "would I be happy leaving my dog here?".  I find it usually works.  Good Luck!

The two rescues that I check for ask for proof that the landlord is happy with you having an animal homed in his property .
Some centres may or may not be happy with your working hours and the length of time left alone - each centre has slightly different policies.
Also gut feeling counts for a lot :)

Yep gut feeling comes into it a lot, and make sure that your garden is well fenced to a sufficient height for the dog you are hoping to adopt.
Don't try and make the house spotless, that is something that always worries me.
As to your working for 8 hours, well as a homechecker I would assume that this had been discussed with the rescue when you enquired about the dog, although for me it's not an ideal situation, if the rescue think the dog can cope and you are a suitable owner then it shouldn't be a problem.
