I am afraid that the chances of any reputable breeders wanting to use your dog are remote unless he fits the breed standard, has had his hips scored to at or below the breed average of 13, and/or has proved his worth in the show ring or in the field.
There are some excellent proven stud dogs in the UK of Show Champion and Champion status and so I am afraid you won't have much luck.
Also you must bear in mind that if you did use your dog at stud it may change his temperament and obviously you must have experience of mating dogs, especially with a maiden dog.
Bitch owners tend to take their well bred dogs to those who have dogs that have something to bring to the breed and complement their lines.
Most stud dogs are not advertised but sought out.............................

Hi Guest
I own a stud dog and he is lovely. When their are NO bitches in season. But his life is an utter misery when bitches are around in season. And yes he can smell all the neighbours dogs. The worst time in his and my life was when he refused to eat for 5 weeks because he was pining for a bitch. I dont get any sleep when bitches are in season because he howls all night long. Ok you may think thats funny, but its not when it goes on and on. Night after night. He also sprays a lot, scenting the area, so the back yard can smell of pee.
In all honesty a good stud dog is not found by someone wanting to stud their dog. Everyone goes to people that have dogs in the show ring, and their are plenty of dogs in the show ring. You only have to do a search in Weimaraners on here to see all the top quality dogs of the uk up for stud. Why breed to a nobody dog when you can breed to the best is what I a lot of people say. Its the same price for either anyway.
Your dog should be hip scored before you can breed him. This detects if your dog has bone wear. This costs around £90-00 to £200-00.
Does your line have entropion in ? If so you wont want to breed your dog.
You should also check to see if he is kennel club registered, as a lot of bad breeders dont bother with registration through the kennel club.
You need to check your breeder did not endorse his pedigree. All our dogs and bitches are sold with breeding endorsements on their pedigrees, and most good Weimaraner breeders now sell them as such. To stop breeding.
Also Weimaraner rescue is full of unwanted Weimaraners needing good homes. The influx of puppies last year puts real strain on rescue centres. Holding your dog at stud makes you really responsible for the litter as well. I took in a dog early this year that a breeder bred, and he had some problems in his life so I took in the dog pup until I could find him a suitable home. It cost me more money in the end than I had in stud fee's. As he was poorly after the first week of me having him.
Your dog also has to have regular smear tests. When any bitch comes to us we have to get our dog smeared to make sure he is not going to pass on any nasties to the bitch. This can cost anything for £70-00 to £150-00 per time. Depending on antibiotics as well if needed.
What else can I tell you?? My brains ticking here.......
Oh yes... Three years of age he may not want to mate a bitch anyway. Because normally dogs are held at stud 14months onwards. Those dogs getting older find they dont really want to do it.
I went to a dog a few years ago and he had a serious problem after mating. His (for a better word) willy would not retract. So you can have lots of problems. You have to know how to stop a slip tie, as most maiden bitches can slip and your dogs (willy) can come out and stay out for half and hour and he can be distressed if this happens. He wont want to mate the bitch then that day. You have to be an experienced handler you really do to know what you are doing.
My vet always says. See those cross bred dogs on the corner of the street mating and they have no problems. You get pedigree dogs and have all sorts of problems. He said breeding is not an exact science. You have to have a lot of knowledge to start. I gained my knowledge off an experienced breeder and also met tons on the way who helped me.
We had one bitch come that screamed rape so badly that she wanted to rip the dogs face off. It can be really, really difficult. But of course as we say"its up to you".
