Hi,
I have a almost 17 month old staff.
When ever I stroke his back (quite quickly, he likes that) he gets a bit confused and tried to nibble on my hand.
He watches my hand for a while and then gets closer, then nibble!!
has anyone else had this with a staff or any other pup for that matter?
It would be interesting to know....
Cheers

Do you think your stroking is a 'simulated itch' and your dog is nibbling as he would naturally do rather like when you tickle a dog in certain places you make it scratch? My dog nibbles my hand when I scratch her :-)

Yeah, I never thought about it like that!
It could just be that.
I though it was because he was seeing my hand move back and forth.
Thanks for that reddor!

Never had the nibling but Gus does like his rear quaters scratched - and he will bark at you to do it too :)

I am beggining to believe it's not that he wants to bite, but it must be a twitch he gets from me stroking his back.
He is good dog, so I have nothing to worry about when it comes to biting. After all he is still a pup.

hiya candie,
No luck yet. To be honest I am just waiting a while, till Max is over his teething stage. He has lost 3 top teeth @ front.

We've just homed a 3 year old Stafford bitch, and she's very nibbly. She's sooooo gentle, and she only does it when we stroke her. It's almost as if she's trying to groom us in return for stroking her. ;)

Benny lifts her back leg and scratches the air if I hit the right spot on her side...
She also nibbles gently from time to time!
Definitely seems to be a Staff thing :D

I dont think it is in any way aggresion or anything like that.
I will just be their 'nervous' or 'itch' spot.
Staffs do the most weird and funny things though, don't you think?

They're definitely the most affectionate breed I've ever owned! My boyfriend has never had Staffords before, and he's constantly amazed at how lovable and people-orientated our two are. :)
i had a lab that used to nibble when i tickled her, but she never hurt when doin it..

Hi katie,
I know this is a little bit off the subject, but people who have never owned staffs before have that perseption about them.
Like the fighting breed. I have only ever owned 1 and thats the pup I have now, Max.
I really don't like people that go on '1st impressions'. Like, have you ever been walking down the street and someone has moved to one side or crossed over when they have realised actually what breed it is!?
Thats what I don't like!
