We have had our second litter of Jack Russells, 5 days early, and a large litter (7). I am wondering wether to top up with milk. I normally use Lactol but have been told by my vet that Whelpi is nearer to bitches milk.....Any advice out there???

Do the pups really need topping up? If they are gaining weight then I wouldnt worry about it. Just make sure mum has access to plenty of good quality food and water.

We hand reared a litter on Whelpi, our vet again said it was much better than Lactol, pups did well on it

I much prefer Whelpi to Lactol too, easier to mix without lumps and less puppy squits! I agree, unless any puppies are obviously not getting enough, I would wait and see for a day or two. Unless she is short of working teats, she will probably feed them fine as long as she gets plenty of good grub and liquids. I always give the bitch a calcum supplement after whelping and through the lactation. Congratulations and good luck.

I have gotten on very well with Litterlac, and no squittines, unlike the skinners Puppy milk, which they eventually got loose on (by six weeks or so)
