Topic Dog Boards / General / dog hair on clothes/furniture

Does anyone have any hints or tips for removing dog hair from clothes and furniture.  I have bought loads of gadgets to do this but none of them work.  I've used a 'magic' sponge to lift hair (it didn't) and velcro balls to put in the washing machine to attract the hair (they don't).  I know that this is one of the hazards of being a dog owner but I've got a red and white dog and don't want to have to have to buy furniture and clothing to match.  I've found that a rubber bristled brush works wonders on the carpets, and laminate flooring is such a lifesaver, but short of using sellotape on everything on my way out the door I don't know how to stay hair free.  I groom my dog regularly but the hair still gets everywhere.  Any tips from anyone who has cracked this would be gratefully received.

Spray with water and throw in tumble dyer for 5/10 mins, the clothes not the dogs. The few hairs that are left can be picked out. As for furniture, use throws which can be tumble dried, or buy new or second hand leather sofas.

I've got something called a Zoom Groom for the dogs.  It is a rubber brush probably much like the one you use on your laminate floor and carpets.  I also have a hand brush with rubber bristles which I find good for floors and clothing alike.  Failing that I use a rubber glove slightly dampened to get rid of hair on clothing.

Hair does still get the better of me at certain times and there are days when it seems everything is covered!

Have you tried a 'Roll Clean tape brush'?  5 metres of sticky backed tape on a roll with a handle and you tear or cut off the tape as you go.  I think you can buy them in Dry Cleaners for 2 or 3 pounds.

You can also buy these from betterware or kleenezee. I use one of those lint brushes that I bought from a market years ago. Don't know if you can still by them but I expect if you used something similar ie a piece of velvet attached to a handle of some kind or sewn onto a glove that might work.:-)

I bought 2 different size lint rollers from Lidls(sp?) recently, they are good on clothes, especially as I tend to wear black for work! For home I use good old fashioned marigolds on the stairs, settees,in fact anywhere Spice rubs against or where we walk up and down stairs in stockings or socks and tread her fur up to the rooms where she doesn't even go :D

I also go over the interior of the car occasionally with rubber gloves, this picks up a lot of fluff and hair off the seats!

Mostly we have laminate floor downstairs and tiles in the kitchen so it's easy to keep clean with one of the many brush gadgets available.

I'm lucky that she loves being groomed so we brush her through each day whilst watching t.v. in the evening and she just lies on the towel legs up in the air and laps it up :D which keeps her shedding down to a minimum.

Hiya,

Just wondered (save money) try rolling some selotape around your hand, and 'dab' your clothes etc.

It works for me!

Thanks for all your tips.  I'll try using a rubber glove next and maybe one day my house and clothes will be hair free.

I bought a lint roller from Betterware the other week and it works a treat on fabrics (clothing, cushions etc).  I remember my sister having one years ago for her dogs that was crap, but they've really come on.  It cost about £3 with spare rollers.

The duvet cover has been the bane of my life recently because it moves about when I hoover it and comes out the washing machine jsut as hairy as it went in but I tried the rubber glove over it this morning and there was a mountain of hair at the edge by the time I had finished.  I didn't realise what unhygenic squalor i have been living in until I saw that pile of hair!  thanks for that tip.

Sticky mitts from Lakeland are great.  They come in packs and you put your hand in them and peel the backing tape off and then "sponge" your clothing with them.  I keep them in my briefcase and bag/car for work/meeting etc; remove hair, dandruff, etc etc

One "mitt" will do a whole suit.
