I have just rescued a year old staff who has never been let off the lead around other dogs. When he is walked on the lead he lunges towards other dogs but never really appears aggressive even if an off lead dog approaches my staff just appears to want to play.
Whats the best way of getting him socialiased now with other dogs off lead? Do I just need to have confidence in him that he won't be nasty? Also his recall needs work on it which I am doing with him in the garden at home. But I am not sure how he would be off lead with other dogs around.
Please Help

Do you have any friends with friendly, confident dogs?  It could be a good idea to introduce your boy to them.  Keep them on the lead initially, though, as you don't want anything nasty to happen!  Male Staffs can have a problem with other dogs, so you could try introducing him to bitches.

As for the recall - I wouldn't chance him off the lead until you're 100% sure of his recall.  You didn't mention how long you have had him for - I seem to remember being told that rescue dogs can take a while to settle down and show their true personality after being rescued.  This may be different for you, as he is a young dog.

Good luck!
