We're about to whip up the carpets in our new house, and clean and polish the original floor boards. Thing is, I'm a bit worried that Cam's going to find it slippy - he hates the laminate kitchen floors and we've had to put rugs down for him as he's always slipping on it. Any ideas as to how slippy a real wood floor will be?
Thanks

A real wood floor is not as slippy as the laminate.
Laminate flooring is a very shiny surface and dogs that aren't used it wil hate it!
My parents have laminate in most room if their house. They have a lab x staff. He does a cartoon like scramble trying to get away from that spot when he gets excited!
The real wood floor however, is very dull, and therefore, the dog will cope with it better.
Your dog will eventually get used to the laminate in your kitchen too.
A good thing about all wood like flooring is that it's much more hygenic, you can see all the hairs and dirt, whereas with a carpet you can only really see stains.

We have laminate in our conservatory and real cherry in the lounge.Spice copes equally well on both,BUT she marks the cherry floor (it's a soft wood compared to some others like oak) she doesn't mark the laminate. My son says it all adds to the natural wear and tear of the flooring and says it looks fine :D
We do cover part of it with a rug in the lounge but she generally lays on the floor in preference!
We introduced the woodfloor whilst our other dog was quite old and worried about how she would cope, but she also had no problems.
In fact the only dog who has slid from one end to the other was my Sister's boxer! but then he was an excited and bouncy type of dog and jumped over,at and under just about anything he could, luckily he never hurt himself, but if he had been my dog I wouldn't have introduced the wood/laminate in case he did himself serious injury.
So I guess it's a case of trial and error with some breeds.

Real wood is not as slippy as laminate but real wood tends to be lightly varnished or even sprayed so I guess you would just need to be careful not to put 10 layer of varnish as it them may be a bit slippy..
