A friend of mine has a Boxer bitch coming up to 26 months old. As yet she hasn't had a season and shows no signs of starting. All the appropriate testing required for breeding has been done and he is at a loss as to why she hasn't come into season. He has two older bitches one of whom whelped happily a few weeks ago and the other has retired to the sofa. The lines for this bitch are very important for his future breeding plans.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas that may encourage the season to start. She has been vet checked and is in excellent health. I am asking on here for him as he has no internet access.
Thank You
Alice

Can't really suggest anything to bring your bitch in other than the other girls coming into season - usually does the trick with mine.
However as a ray of hope my friend has  a kelpie bitch who has just has her first season at 21 months.  She too was an improtant girl as her mom was imported from Australia in whelp, so the only source of this line, as the other bitch in this litter was sold as a pet.

Hope things happen soon

Has the bitch been tested for her hormone levels ? She might need some daily injections to bring her into season

It worked for my first litter of Beardies(had to give them ourselves)

The bitch needs to see a vet, there is something amiss. IMO any bitch not having had their first season by 18 months should be checked out to make sure there is nothing wrong and if there is to have it treated. It could be that whatever is causing this bitch not to come into season may mean that she should not be bred from anyway.

My Beardie never had a season until the one we bred her She had a very slight hormone deficiency & after the hormone injections came into season within 4 days & had a totally naturally delivered litter on her 63 day, seven puppies which she took an hour & a half having(yes 1 1/2 hours)& after that had normal seasons until the day she died aged 18

She produced three Champ show winners & a foundation bitch for someone, plus obedience winners & the other one worked sheep & cattle-yes she was a beardie & not a BC

She had of course already been X rayed for HD & Eye tested

I could just have been very lucky of course

Hi Alice :-) like Jackie I would have had a bitch 'very important to his future breeding plans' checked out at 18 months afer missing approx 2 seasons. I would certainly not leave it any longer before seeing a vet about it , it is probably hormonal but could be the 'internal' also best not to leave a bitch too long before having have her first litter if he intends having more than one :-)

I agree, definetly needs Vet advice, and preferable by a reproductive speciliast, now it has gone on this long.  A common cause for delayed/irregular seasons in my breed is Thyroid problems, which are easily medicated once disocvered.

It if is an underactive thyroid causing the problem then your bitch should not be bred from as, although easily treated, this is a genetic problem in some breeds.
