Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / whining whats wrong
- By maglaura [gb] Date 12.06.04 14:23 UTC
yesterday and today Tula has been whining she isnt in any pain as far as we can tell and when we fuss her she settles down she seems a little agitated but not unwell we have a new grandson who has been center of attention with us and the children could this be the cause untill yesterday she has just ignored all the fuss she is eating and drinking, but this odd behaviour is so unlike her at first I though she may be ill but she seems fine and doing all her usuall things she also appears to be searching for something I am at a loss as to what to do should I contact the vet?

maglaura was she in season a little while ago..could it be a false pregnancy? That would fit in with the hunting/whining. :-)

hi reddoor her season was a few months ago so I guess it could be but she has had no other signs is there anything I can do to make it easier for her I know she is deffinalty not pregnant as she was kept in while in season to many strays round here

..not really anything to help, was her season around 9 weeks ago? If you are sure she is not ill..no sickness, runs, temp, drinking or weeing a lot? Try squeezing her teats and see if there is milk as sometimes happens with false pregnancy. She could just be feeling a bit left out..lots of hugs called for I think. If the behaviour continues I would check with the vet. :-) Also if she is an unspayed bitch with a false pregnancy there may be an increased chance of pyometra as this also is thought to be hormone related.

Don't want to worry you but these were the first signs of Dilita's pyometra, she didn't seem ill as such but was whining and barking quite a lot, which wasn't her.  I'd take her to the vets just to be on the safe side.

Hope she's better soon.

Hi Perro  :-) Maglaura did say her girl was not ill and did not display signs of pyo (drinking more/panting/hot/ etc) Pyo is always at the back of my mind having lost 2 girls with it and  just saved a third (a much loved Ch bitch with a litter who the vet said was not ill and one girl on the operating table..huge vets bill no dog) was your Dilita ok? The incidence of this disease seems to have increased at such a rate over the years, I am told it was hardly heard of years ago, one wonders if the natural resistance in dogs has been lowered in some way..pollutants perhaps? :-(

well I hope I am right but I think it may well just be a case of her feeling down as she isnt center of attention we havent had a visit from the baby today and the kids have had her running around and playing and she has settled right down I will keep a very close eye on her and if she starts again I will ring the vet thanks for the advice

Today tula has been hiding in corners and a bit off her food other than that she seems fine no panting no exsesive drinking and she appears fine in every other way will continue to keep a close eye on her and have a word with the vet tomorrow if things stay as they are

maglaura...don't want to scare you and may be only a false pregnancy but I would be worried if she is off her food today and still acting strange...as perrodeagua says it could be pyo which does not always have symptoms...hope she will be ok...if it were me I would be having a word with the vet today.

HOpefully its not pyometra, but just wanted to add that my bitch didn't show ANY of the classic signs when she had it.

just thought you might like to know it seems my soppy dog is getting stressed over my new grandson she is fine once he has gone home but when he is here she whines and fusses we have started to ignore the behaviour so as not to incourage it. We are being extra carefull as I am not sure how she will react with him but hopefully she will come to accept him as part of the family

Hi Reddoor thanks and yes he is doing fine total in love with the little man perhaps Tula realised that he was going to get loads of attention and decided to remind everyone that shes still here all this started a few days after he was born I guess she was just jealous poor love so we are trying to cheer her up when he is here
