Topic Dog Boards / General / Season again?
- By jolin_71 [gb] Date 11.06.04 13:42 UTC
My youngest girl had her first season in April when she was 8 months old, she is now very swollen and bleeding again.
My older girl is also in her second season, her first being in November, she was a year old in January.
Should I be worried about my little one?
Any advice greatfully appreciated.
Kind regards,
Linda

I might be wrong, but I'm sure I've heard a bitch can be brought on by another bitch in season.
But I would of thought that would only happen if they were due roughly the same time.

It is not uncommon for a bitch to come into season shortly after she has finished one. They also can bring each other into season if they are living with each other. Don't worry too much but just keep an eye out for friction that might occur between each of them, especiaslly if they get amorous, which bitches can do. If generally worried seek advice from your vet. :-)

I assume as you refer to bleeding rather than discharge, you mean obviously red blood?  If you're talking about a murky and/or smelly discharge, with those timescales I would be concerned about the possibility of pyometra, which is uncommon following a first season but definitely not unheard of.

As another poster said, your other bitch being in season could have brought her back in, but if you have any suspicions that she's under the weather or if you see her drinking excessively, it may be worth checking her temperature or getting your vet to check her over.

Seems too soon to me. I think I would get a vet to have a look. I know the dog is young to get Pyometra but the infection often gets in via the open cervix whilst the bitch is in season. This is what happened to my Mandy.

Other than being swollen and obvious red blood she is her usual self and no apparent change in behaviour but I will keep a close eye on her.
Any worries and I'll get straight on to the vet.
Thanks all.

What was the first season like?  did she jsut belled for a few days swell a little and then signs subsided quite quickly?  If so it could be that she has had a split season.  the first time there weren't high enough hormone levels to complete the process,a nd it cubsided only to be prompted into starting with the other bitch coming in and being a bit more mature.
