Topic Dog Boards / General / will our KC ever?
- By angienelly [gb] Date 09.06.04 09:55 UTC
Will our Kennel Club ever join the FCI?
I'd like to know anyones thoughts on it or if they have heard any news that we may join FCI.

Sorry, but whats the FCI?

Federation Cynologique Internationale; the mainland European federation of Kennel Clubs.

Not only Europe, Jeangenie, the world.  Neither the AKC or the KC are members though.

Seems very strange & i for one can't understand why we haven't yet joined.
I looked on the FCI website & it shows a map of the world & all the countries that have joined, we are listed amongst the 3rd world because we are not part of it.
Hope this makes sense! LOL I'm in depression, i've been trying for so long to get my Jack Russells KC registered here in country of ORIGIN! that i'm starting to go around in circles, i think the only way i'll ever have them registered with our KC instead of me having to send to the USA is to hope & pray we join the FCI.
I'm even thinking of having a petition signing expedition to crufts next year as i have lots of friends who have JRTs (not the parson type) that have qualified for Crufts in their own country but cannot be show here because its an unrecognised breed. Its driving me mad!

I think this is one of the reasons it is unikely the UK will join FCI, at least in the forseeable future.  Not just JRTs, but all the dozens and dozens of breeds which the KC does not recognise, but the FCI does.  Under our rules you cant have a judge judging without a KC breed standard being "in the book" can you?  And you cant have a standard without breed club input etc, etc.  So if there are not any in the UK and no club, going thorugh the usual import register route, there wont be a breed standard.  Catch 22.
bye

I think it would mean the KC relinquishing some of their control so I dont think I would hold my breath if I was you. I'm not even sure that we would benifit if the KC did go down that route.

Best wishes, John

I have been in touch with the KC & there answer was we won't register the JRT seperately from PRT........but they said if i were to export one of my dogs have it registered in that country, get its title & import it back as a registered dog i could do this & they'd place the dog on the 'import breeds register' but they'd have to have enough of the breed being imported over 10 years or something for them to consider giving us seperate KC recognition. What a farce!

I doubt it...The FCI standerds (which wll have to be used) will disqualify dogs from the ring if it says to do so in the breed standard.  The KC don't seem to want to do this and insted put "highly undersiable"
