I have my car and house contents and building with them; the one time in my life I ever had to make a claim they were round in a couple of days and the claim settled within a week.

We had to take a lab in last year he was 8 and his owner had died he was found to have cancer and I noticed in his papers he was still insured with >more than,I contacted them and they arranged to have policy in my name and paid out the claim which I thought was most impressive.
I actualy have mine insured with Saga who are also very good trouble is you need to be over fifty :(.

Don't get me on the subject of More Than !! LOL
I have just had an unfortunate incident with a bike with my car. Anyway I need a new door and wing !
I rang to make a claim and they hadn't set my policy with protected no claims and then found out the policy was only for 'Social Use' and didn't cover me with travelling to and from work ! So they refered it and said that they would have to look at it !
Anyway I was so sick and tired of clambering in the back to get Indigo in and out of her car seat cause I can only get to the drivers seat by the passenger side and Indigo was getting peed off as I keep accidentliy bashing her bonce as it is so difficult to get her out, (26lbs of wriggly baby out a three door Stilo) :D I have spent most of the day trying to sort it out ! Repsonses like' Sorry but the referal team are a non incoming call department and so you can't speak to them !! ' Arrrgghhhhh ! Anyway all hopefully sorted now but watch out as I would never take out a policy without the two options and so they said it was my fault as I should have checked my policy more closely !!
Apart from that they were the cheapest I found for my car insurance !

No my dogs are with Petplan.
And LJS your insurance company is correct, the first thing I do when receiving my policy and updates is to scrutinise it carefully, whatever company you are with!
We had a recent issue with RAC/AA cover on the forum if you remember .........................................

Yes I am not disputing that they are wrong. Just so frustrating when you live a busy life and don't have time to read the small print on things ! I alway say read you policies very carefully ! Just didn't do it on this one as have never neeeded to claim on my car insurance for quite a few years !

:(

I am with More Than for the bulldogs and rotties and I am pleased with the cover and the monthly costs.
It is an ongoing policy ie if I claim for skin problems the cover is renewed every year and no exclusion on it.

The only thing I am uncertain of with More Than is the £6000 limit. Is that per annum or for the entire illness/accident?
Petplan Supreme cover seems to cost an arm and a leg

Hi Lel, when I was looking for pet insurance my two preferences were More Than and Direct Line Advanced Policy (they were both very similar). I chose Direct Line (can't remember why :( ) The Advanced Policy has a £6000 limit with no time limit, I also have third party liability and pet travel cover but in order to keep the price down I did not opt for any of the additional benefits i.e holiday cancellation, theft or straying.

very important to read small print how many of us sign the credit slips in supermarket, shops etc and havent a clue what the amount is also how many of us give our card numbers out willy nilly over the phone etc.. I just noticed a firm I buy stuff for fundraiseing have taken the identical amount off two of my cards :(
But!!! you must get dog insurance I am so glad we have it for Annie her bills are up to £800+ now and because we are with saga the excess is only £35 ( one advantage to being over fifty ;) )

One thing to remember with morethen is that they have an accumulating excess !!!! Not sure of the exact figures but I think it's £55 or 15% of the claim, which ever is higher.
A friend of mine has been left with a £750 vet bill to pay when she lost her dog just before christmas.
First problem arose because she had just renenwed the policy in November paying £25 a month, when the dog died she had the full annual premium of nearly £300 taken from the claim. The dog was also on a lot of drugs and everytime she got them there was a percentage to pay for the excess.
So yes read the small print very carefully before you decide.
Direct Line is in effect a monthly policy, advanced gives you £6,00 per condition for life with and you only pay the excess once.
We are with the RSPCA as they put money back into the animal hospitals and welfare schemes (allegedly) plus they give you continous cover year after year if your dog is ill so even if you had to make a claim this year you could carry on with the claim next year and the year after till the injury has cleared up.

Iwanst aware that the RSPCA did insurance ? Or do you mean you are with an "RSPCA recommended" insurer?
Do they do lifetime cover too

Although you pay monthly with direct line, is this a life time cover? What I mean is, do they renew your policy each year and then not include stuff you have previously claimed for ? I hang my head in shame because my cats are with direct line and I thought it was a lifetime policy as long as you pay your premium every month but now im worrying that it isnt, keep meaning to phone them up but havent got round to it

Depending on which policy you have with Direct Line, if it is the advanced policy they give lifetime cover per condition up to the £6,000.
They don't actually do annual policies, you have to pay monthly and should anything happen to the animal, the cover stops there and then, if you haven't claimed in that month you get a refund, (that surprised me too).
If it's the standard policy then cover only runs for one year from the first visit to the vet.
All policies are reviewed on the aniiversary of the start date and any adjustment in premiums made then.
Insurance is a minefield, but I've been with Direct Line for 6 years now and made several claims without any problems, they even pay my vet direct so all I have to do is pay the excess.
I have heard the Marks & Spencers now do a very good policy but not seen it.

I have the advanced policy for my cats. Thanks for the re-assurance on Direct Line it did confuse me slilghtly

I will insure my pup with them now when his freebie insurance runs out :)
