sorry had to post here as having problems signing in  but I just wondered if anyone could give some suggestions, we have several Boxers amongst them are 2 bitches who have always lived together (3 1/2 years and 2 1/2 years old ) and although never over friendly we have had no real problems then they both came in season 2 weeks ago and it has been bedlam they cannot even see eachother without world war 3 breaking out and will even attack with the kennel bars between them, what makes it worse is the others will pile in too if I'm not watching, I was wondering if anyone had overcome this problem or will they settle when the seasons have finnished any opinions and suggestions would be appreciated as I am tearing my hair out.

I have three bitches who don't mix.  They live in the house but are kept apart.  All three get on with the other dogs and bitches.  If two of them were to inadvertantly get together in the garden or even in the house they would probably be okay until something triggered them off and then all hell would break loose and they would have a serious fight so we don't risk it.  They did get on as youngsters initially.  They are all spayed so it wasn't to do with seasons.  Yours may be okay after their seasons but I would be inclined to keep them away from each other so that they don't practice their hatred for each other at the moment.  I would say that kennel bars between them would tend to make matters worse as well.  Very often though when this happens with bitches there is no going back. :(  I hope this is not the case for you.

Can you muzzle them and let them roam together (constantly muzzled)
We have 2 akita bitches like this, and we were advised to get two "box" muzzles and make them wear them when they are together, as with this type of muzzle they can breath easily and still drink water.

It seems to work, although i haven't taken their muzzles off when together yet lol. But when they have them on they are fine with one another

I think that the chance of them getting on together now is very slim. Once bitches take a dislike to each other they tend to hold a grudge and will fight at any opportunity.

Hope yours are the exception, but be very, very wary if you put them together in the future.

We had a similar problem with 2 of ours. When the younger one matured she wanted to be alpha female and the other one would not back down. they had a fight and we thought it was a one off, but then any situation would trigger it off and they started again. Rather than part with either I have kept them separate for the last couple of years. If I am on my own in the house I put one in a crate which they were use to as they have travelled in them for shows etc. I swap them over every half hour or so. When anyone else is home, they just go off in separate parts of the house which is ok for us due to how our house is laid out. Sometimes I get a bit of eyeballing through crate but usually they are ok in same room as long as one is in crate. I do know if I ever let them together they would start again. I do agree with shadowboxer that they are unlikely to be friends again. HTH.
Good Luck, Sue
