My bitch is due to whelp in the next 4-6 days and since 2 days ago she seems to be finding it quite difficult to cope with her current 'fat' situation. During the day she is not too bad, just the ocassional panting sessions, but when its time for bed she starts panting heavily and cannot get comfortable. Does anyone have any tips on how to make her more comfortable? And I am positive this is not the start of her going into labour.
Thanks

I am in exactly the same position with a bitch due on Saturday. She is enormous and very uncomfortable in this hot weather. I am now off work so she can be supervised all the time, ideal in this weather.
She herself has decided to spend lots of time in her kennel and is happy in their without me, so if I sit in the deckchair and read, she will stay put. The moment I move, she goes too! Of course this means I have to stay put - shame but nice tan!
I've got a water spray and gently mist her every now and again, we have a fan in the conservatory (which is shady) and I give her ice chips to eat/play with. She is panting lots and it's hard to tell if this is the beginning or just hot, but I guess a bit of both.
It's an anxious time but the weather is lovely which helps, I wouldn't want to be stuck in the kennel for hours on end in the winter!
PS lots of tummy rubbing helps, and firm massage at the base of her tail.
