Has anybody got a Leonberger? I saw them at Crufts on Friday and I've fallen in love with them but I want to wait til my b/c is at least a year old and save up the necessary money to maybe buy one, so I'm using the time to find out as much as I can before I commit myself. Any info would be great. :D

Well I have seen several competing in Obedience at Exemption shows. A good freind of mines sister got involved with the breed when she stil had her two GSDs, and became a breeder and exhibitor in the West country.
they seem a very nice breed, rather like the Newfoundland in temperament, but a bit more compact and a little less drooly. Easy going ssorts. Hairy obviously!!!!
My freinds sister is Madelaine Lusby of the "Sharmayne" kennel affix.

I met some Leonbergers at crufts this weekend, one of which was a working guide dog!!!!! i think that says a lot about the breed really, id love one, but i think it will be a while before i can afford it!
Gorgeous dogs though.

I used to show a friends leo, he is lovely they have fantastic temperaments, although it does depend on how you bring them up they are not all so well behaved, he had manorguard bloodlines in him which is john feehans affix and he does own some lovely dogs, my friend payed about £600 for hers, and he got to crufts, but sadly my friend died in december so i doubt i will see the dog anymore, but they are a lovely breed.

hi
i have a leo who is 14 months old.His grandparents are manorguard line. They are lovely dogs but grow very fast and are not for every one as they can be stubborn but i wouldn't be without him

There are quite a few at our water training and they do very well, they seem very at home in the water and these are obedient and love the water

Your right, didnt read post right. No Im not going to show, not really my thing.Im more into the working stuff, like carting and swimming. Plus since having her spayed her coat has gone mad,she has so much of it. she is lovely, but not brilliant showing material. saying that it doesnt seem to matter ,when you see some of the winners!!(do not mean to sound bitchy). good luck at show, let us know how you get on.

the judge said toby was too big! nothing about gait etc just too big in mass for age.also said he will never be a champ but how can he tell from 1 show. plus we are both new to it all so we will see. i know what you mean about the dogs that have been placed now.lol. there was some of your girls litter sibling there but don't know if they were placed.we picked up the info on working him.do you work her within the club? if so we may met some time.

Hi, I have a leonberger puppy who's 14 weeks, she is a little (large) bundle of fun, very energetic! Starting ringcraft soon hopefully if I can get in anywhere. My friend has 3 leos and yesterday I went to visit a friend, who was 'dog-minding', and she had 7 plus 5 newfies!
I started off by going to shows with a friend and I got absolutely hooked, they really are a marvellous dog.
