Can anyone tell me the origin of Charles's medals that he was wearing when talking to the D-Day heroes today, he seemed to have as many as them yet I cannot remember him serving in any conflicts?

Just watched him on the news moments ago, and was wondering the same thing!!

Prince Charles' Decorations:
KG (1958, invested and installed 1968), KT (1977), GCB and Great Master of Order of the Bath (1975), AK, QSO, PC (1977)
You don't have to have served in a conflict to get a medal ;)

Yep - normal soldiers get them when they have been deployed on a tour (Bos, Kos, Falklands, N. Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan I think) and the LS&GC (Long Service and Good Conduct) too :)

Hi Choloeh your are right about the medals as my husband has got the Kos/N Ireland...he also has the Jubilee Medal and still waiting a year later for his Iraq medal...They were quite happy to send the poor squaddies out there well at least they could give them a medal for risking their lives for Queen and country!!!..
You can also get a medal if you do a UN tour..ie Cyprus borders..
LS & GC is only given if you have not done anything wrong in your army career....my OH won't be getting his as he was a naughty squaddie years ago...bless him!!!
Jane..(wife of...)..:-)
So, did Charles actually do any of the tours, and I mean properly, not just visiting?

I posted a list of his medals above. None of those are for visits as far as I am aware

.. you are right M. :-) Think I am correct in saying Charles did not to my knowledge do any tours of duty. His brother Andrew was in the Falklands conflict. Charles was an officer in the Navy and is CIC of various Reg. can't remember which. He is the same age as me so would have been too young for Korea, Ireland was probably too risky for an Heir to the throne.(my late husband was in Korea and Northern Ireland, the latter contributed to his early demise, he had medals for these tours and some from the UN. ) Charles was not I think a serving officer during the other conflicts, he was busy with his own at home by then ,don't think he won any good husband medals though :-D

Yeah, my ex has 5 - without the LS&GC cos he was naughty when younger and had a ND and shot a fridge

:D

As Charles was a serving officer in the Royal Navy he is as entitled as any other officer to certain medals. I don't believe he was serving during any conflicts, so, like everyone else who didn't, he hasn't got those medals.

I think he got them from a pawn shop on the old kent road.

Exactly! He has the medals he's entitled to have, and not those he isn't! Can't say fairer than that!
I suppose it is JG, the only problem I have with it, and I may be the exception, but from a distance he looks to have the same as a lot of those brave war vets, I know they all signify different things but to the uneducated it looks unfair - although of course I am sure the war vets can tell :)

rofl to anyone that honestly believes he has risked his life or earned any medals.
I certainly dont envy him his life, and actually feel a bit sorry for him, but the medals,,,,,,,,, get real

I'm pretty sure Charles is no cissy judging by the way he plays polo

despite often being in a lot of pain with old injuries. I feel if put in the situation he would aquit himself as well as any serviceman and I doubt he would have turned the oportunity down if he had ever have been allowed to.
I also think having earned his service medals it would belittle the honours given to the other recipients if he did not wear them, by wearing them he is showing them they can be proud of being awarded for serving their country.
