lily has started this weird thing: she'll lie down with her large fluffy dumbell in her mouth (it's sat on it's end upright, so her head is raised up), her eyes will be open but she goes into a dreamlike state, she then sporadically kneads the carpet for a few seconds with her front feet (like a cat)

she'll do this for up to half an hour, then sort of come out of it, look a bit confused and carry on with normal things. she's done this about 3 times now, that i'm aware of

why is she doing this and should i be worried ??

How old is she? I'm asking cos it sounds like she 'suckles' like my friends 12 month old dog does, even Maddie does it to her teddy (shes 13 weeks) its like they are suckling an imaginary teat! We find it funny to watch and call their toy a 'titty-la-la'. I dont honestly think it is anything to worry about.

she's coming up to 11 months. she doesn't actually suckle, she just seems to hold it

when i first got her she suckled my belly button which was a slightly bizarre experience !

Sound quite exciting ;) bet she would lick chocolate too but that would not be good for her.

Spice does this too :D is it one of those soft multi-stripe dumbells from Pets@home,with a squeaker in each end?
Spice's is now all yukky with her holding onto it,so needs another session in the washing machine!
She usually does this around 6ish in the evening after she's settled down digesting her tea and it kind of relaxes her?! then she will run around like a mad thing for a short spell as if she has recharged her batteries :D

She doesn't 'suckle' any of her other toys tho' soft or otherwise so I mustn't lose this one it's her favourite.

yep it's exactly the same toy ! they're obviously special, maybe they should start marketing them as dog pacifiers :)

she has one other toy that she adores, it's a pink dog that plays music (it was a valentines gift a few years ago and lily decided to steal it) she presses the button and cries along with it, and then she stresses because she needs to hide it somewhere and she can never decide on the best place. it's a hard life !

My grandmother's Pug does something similar to this. I don't believe the Pug moves her front paws around as yours does, but she just holds a plush toy with them instead and sucks on the toy. My grandmother is constantly washing the plush toys Candie sucks on as they sure do start to stink. Candie the Pug is 10 years old and has done this ever since she was 5 weeks old. =)
