Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / flying within UK with pup

I am due to collect a pup and have to travell a very long way to get him home. we're looking at a 12 hour drive, which is a very long time for a tiny puppy, and was wondering if any of you know of an airline that flys within the UK that will allow me to take a pup onboard as hand luggage?
Its more for the pups comfort than my inconvenience as i have family 1/2 way where we could stop off for a break. However. we then have the dilemma of him having to stay with my family's dogs and dont want to risk infection despite their dogs being vaccinated, wormed etc etc. He could be kept seperateed from them in a crate but i dont want to put him under any further stress, the journey alone will be bad enough for him.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Due to safety restrictions, I don't believe any domestic airline will take a puppy onboard as handluggage :(

I don't think any domestic airline will fly pets within the country, whether as hand luggage or in the hold.

I have friends who fly upto Scotland & show their dogs from London but I don't know which airline or whether they are allowed as hand luggage I would think they have to travel in the hold

Yes, they have to travel in hold on UK flights, which I think would be very stressful for the pup.  How about train travel - would that be apossibility for  your trip?

I have recently flown a puppy down from Scotland without any problems atall other than the fact that only the larger type planes are suited to live animals in the hold due to pressure etc, so I had to  fly into heathrow & then had a 5 hour drive back :( however it was fabulously easy once I had sorted out the paperwork. you will need a flight approved crate and thats all. the staff @ BMI were great....they let me keep her with me until the very last moment before putting her on board, & the porters @ heathrow made sure she was ok when they got her off the plane. :). it was a lot less stressful for pup & tiring for me, than driving....and I know this because I drove to SKC last week!!!
