Topic Dog Boards / General / Rabbits anyone?

I have rescued 4 rabbits, 3 girls (2 pregnant and 1 with 3 babies) and one boy. Can anyone tell me how long bunnies gestation period is and when can you let the babies go? The babies are 4wks old now and running around the hutch and sharing mums food, I am assuming they need to stay with her until they are about 6wks tho?
Thanks Debbie.

Gestation period - not long enough (28 - 32 days)
The babies should be weaned by 8 weeks and males can be able to father babies as early as 10 weeks

Beware that if the mum wasn't separated from the dad at the time of the birth you could be in for more babies 28 days later.  I know that from experience!  There was nothing more shocking than to go out to feed 4 week old babies to discover another litter in there!  Our mistake totally, she went for a run round the garden after giving birth and must have met up with our male, we don't remember it happening but it is the only explanation for it!!!

OMG I hadn't thought of that, two have already multiplied, I could not cope with more.
