I have a year and a half old border terrier and am having difficulty finding someone to hand strip him. He's been stripped about twice before but both seemed to have disappeared and many dog groomers don't do it at all! Can anyone recommend anyone in the Guildford area? With many thanks, Kate

Why not learn to do it yourself. Your breeder should be able to help you learn. It is not really that difficult to get them looking smart and tidy even if not quite Crufts standard :)
You could contact the breed club (details on this site) and ask for contact numbers of breeders/exhibitors in your area. Many exhibitors trim for other people as a sideline and you can be confident someone who wins well with their dogs, knows what they are doing. They may even give you a lesson on how to do it yourself if you would rather. Do stay with the dog the first time, just to check they handle your pet kindly.

sorry to sound a bit dumb here but whats 'stripped' or stripping staffs arn't my breed so does it apply to all breeds, sorry i get confussed with new termanology,
betty ;-)
Hi, stripping is removing the coat by hand ( like plucking your eyebrows) or with a special stripping knife. Some coated breeds are presented for show this way, like rough haired terriers - Westies, Cairns Borders to name a few. Westies dont ever moult, so need their old coat removed to keep the coat growing strongly and harsh textured. If you clip these breeds insteadthe coat can go soft and thin - which is not correct for the ring and is not waterproof either.

Hi contact the breed club and see if they are holding any seminars, you could also ask if they have or know of any members in your area they would help/teach you.
You should find someone keen to teach you.
