What about a trip in a hot air balloon or a day in a formula one car or similar

I have this problem every year with both my dad and my FIL. As you are talking in dollars, I pressume you are in America and therefore he has no need for an outdoor heater? :) We bought our respective fathers Screwpull bottle openers. They're really good and all recipients have been very pleased with them. Please let me know what you decide, it may come in useful at Christmas! ;)

Like said, some sort of day in a ballon, or racing, there are many options and all experiances of a life time!!!
Or go for boring old socks LOL

How about a donation to a third world charity in his name, something for the people who don't have everything :)
need more gift ideas it is my nanas (dads mother)80th on saturday and she is very hard to buy for
when you give her a gift she says oh you shouldnt waste your money and if i dident buy her anything she would get grumpy
so any ideas for both dad and my grandmother greatly appreciated

What about a lovely plant that you can put in the garden, perhaps one that is named
a similar/same name as herself.
That way as it grows and matures and she'll always get pleasure from? (The same goes for your dad, does he like gardening?)
Some garden centres do gift vouchers etc if your aren't sure.
Or a family portrait say of all her grandchildren/children? (also may be somethnig that your dad may like?)
(That's something my own Nan has always hankered for, and she has 4 children, 17 grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren
but family conflicts have prevented it :( )
I have portraits done of my dogs - It's something that means alot to me, and it's a one-off.
Some people have stars named after them, and they get a certificate proving that a star is named after them.
My other half sponsors a Tiger in the wild, through the WWF. He gets a T-shirt and a limited edition print of a Tiger every year
plus a certificate and notification of how the Tiger/s are faring. You can also tick a box that you don't get all the other bits if you don't want to etc.
He also collects minature models of his favourite car - The mini. He hopes to get a real one soon...
I'm sure what ever you get they will be pleased, afterall you've put all the thought and effort in to get them the gift.
I say it doesn't matter whatever you get, it's always the thought that counts.

Does he like birds? While you are at the garden centre getting Boxacrazys plant you could also get one of the lovely nesting boxes for birds like little houses they have now (or from the RSPB) and he could film them with the camera you got..or how about a magazine subscription..they do them for all sorts now (WH Smiths and others) just got DIL Good Food Mag for a year :-)

What about an acre of the moon?!!!!!! That would be an unusual gift!

Isn't buying a bit of paper saying you 'own' some of the moon just as worthless as DLRC? After all, as nobody owns the moon, nobody can sell it to you ...
does any one know of a website that sells roses where i could look up my dads name and my nans name to see if there is a rose
thanks

Calm down Jeangenie! It was just an idea  Off corse no body owns the moon its just nice to feel your involved in a bit of ''space''. Its not as if the majority of people are going to visit it in their life time anyway.

It's just that it seems a tad daft to hand over hard-earned cash in exchange for rubbish! I was just trying to save someone from a con, but if it makes them happy ... I'm told people buy dafter things off eBay, and everyone here mocks them ...

:D at Jeangenie! We were at a complete loss as to what to get BIL for his 40th and eventually opted for an acre of the moon for him. We were really unsure as to how it would go down with him, but he absolutely loved it. It might be daft, but it did make him happy ;)

I think you can get a star named after you too - sorry Jeangenie. ;-)

I read that too, and I asked the Royal Astronomical Society if the star's new name is recognised by astronomers worldwide - ie, if it's official. When they stopped laughing they told me no, it's a joke.
:)
