Topic Dog Boards / General / Which side?

Hi everyone, I have a very simple question. I bought some material to make bandanas for my dogs yesterday. They are the right size to fit around the dog's neck and is loose enough that if the dog needed or really wanted to, it could slip it off over it's neck. Anyways, my question is this- Which side is a bandana usually worn? Is it worn over the back or is it worn on the neck and slightly over the chest? I tried both ways on both my dogs and neither one seemed to mind the bandanas, whichever side it was on. They must think of them as part of their collars. Anyways, I would really appreciate it if someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hi Tara,
All the dogs I have seen wearing bandanas have had them on the front of their necks and chest. Saw a little boy wearing one the same way as well so I think thats right.

Have never understood their purpose in either human, and especially dog, is it purely ornamental?

BoxerLuv- Thank you very much, I will put them on the front of their necks then. I appreciate your answering my question. :)

Brainless- On a human, cowboys used to wear bandanas over their mouths to protect themselves from dust coming from cattle or horses. Imagine trying to breath clean air when you are traveling behind 2000 head of cattle! Thieves also used them to cover their faces so that their identity would remain a question. On a dog, I don't know the sole purpose. Ornamental, I suppose. That is my reason for putting them on my dogs. I myself do not believe in dressing a dog up in frilly dresses or making them wear pants and shirts or hats. But a bandana is very simple and is worn around the dog's neck, usually causing no discomfort to the dog. My dogs are both huskies and had a hard time adjusting to their normal collars. But since they have worn collars all their lives, a simple and loose bandana tied around their neck did not bother them at all. But the bandanas do look very nice on the dogs. They both looked very handsome in them. As stated in my above post, the material is tied loose enough that the dog could easily pull them off if needed. In fact, just last night Kieron pulled her's off and was attempting to chew it. No worries, then. :)

my dogs bandanas have teatree oil on them for flea treatment they where them before i go to a show and on the way home from the show so any little nastys they have picked up at the show can be dispensed with.

Siblover..  ;-) my friends lab wears a bandana.. good for catching all those dribbles when they watch you eat  :-P   lol  I think you will find it has to be worn in the down (bib) position, I noticed when 'minding' her it slips around to the front under its own weight even if it starts on top!!
