The Greyhound, and by a long way!!! They raced together over 2 furlongs (400yds) a sprint racehorse and a past winner of the Greyhound derby (now retired). The dog won by a fair distance. Good to watch.

I bet it was! I would be that little bit worried about the dog though, as the horse could kick or stand on him/her?
It must have been weird to watch though?
Is the horse and greyhound yours?

I saw that! It was great to watch! The horse and the greyhound were quite far apart and the greyhound looked like he wanted the rabbit too much to care about the massive horse next to him (Typical greyhound ;) )

Oh right. I'm glad that they were both fine.
I get worried about animals. I'm a worrier!

Did anyone watch the race between a pigeon and a car on Top Gear the other night? Must admit this is probably the only programme that regularly makes me laugh although those interested in cars probably find it next to useless.

There seems to be a lot of this sort of thing at game fairs now, usually Greyhound against Pigeon, good to watch.
The dog yesterday was 8yrs old, he was as keen as ever.

I saw this on sky sports, quite amusing actually...However definately not a fair race ;) The stats say that both are capable of 40mph however I feel the weight difference/acceleration should be taken into account, as well as stamina! Fun to watch though and it was on a proper racecourse so there was a safe and fair distance between them!

Was the horse not raced with another horse then - just on his own?
The greyhound chased a rabbit, but the horse was just ridden by a jockey?

Yes Chloe, the dog was an 8yr old Grehound that ran on one side of the track, and the Horse was a 6yr old sprinter. Fergus Sweeny rode the Horse, I don't think it would of been very easy to get one to run full tilt in a straight line by itself. It amazes me how fair it was BEFORE the race, but when the Horse lost it became unfair!
The dog was so far in front I doubt another furlong would of made much difference.

I don't think its fair to pit a horse on its own against a greyhound - the greyhound is encouraged to chase the rabbit but its down to the jockey to race the horse alone (ie not with another horse). Surely it would have been more even had the greyhound chased the rabbit and 2 horses had ran against it - to allow the horse to compete in a more natural environment?

If a roadster and a 4x4 raced off the lights which would pull away first???? Sight hounds are capable of very fast short bursts of speed while a horse would take longer to reach full speed, although once there could maintain it for a said distance (grand national is 4 miles.) Just seen as a bit of fun me thinks :) But definately not fair or comparible!

but that isn't fair! the horse had extra weight on its back!
