Topic Dog Boards / General / What kind of job?

Hello everyone.
I'm looking for abit of guidence from you doggy folk who are lucky enough to be able to take your dogs to work. What kind of job do you have that allows your dog/s to go with you.
I'm a nurse who went onto full time nights because i could'nt bear to leave Buddy all day especially doing hospital shifts (earlies, lates and night duties). There was no pattern to his or my day. He was fed and walked when i was home etc. I transferred to nights over a year ago and things have been good (for him) but i don't want to do nights forever and i WON'T go back to those shifts.
I'm in a right dilema cause i don't know what job would suit us both. I would LOVE a job that allows me to take him with me etc. I drive etc with no other commitments except my dog.
I'm i being stupid cause i feel it when i discuss this with other work colleagues.
Suggestions please.
Budmag.

Hi Maggie :-)  I take my dog to work !..I work in a boarding school as a 'matron' ..read that as surrogate mother/big sister/nurse/personal adviser, general dogsbody and all round bossybreeches! We have  'San Sisters'  who are trained nurses, our head Sister has 2 labs one a puppy. Many of the jobs come with accommodation, a yearly salary and long paid holidays. You can find them advertised in newspapers on the net and in 'the Lady' The job is very rewarding and fun, good luck :-D.

My mate is a community nurse and takes her dog on her rounds with her, sometimes she leaves it in the car whilst on a visit and sometimes the dog goes in too!

Budmad, have you thought of community nursing, the hours are more regular and you may be lucky to have a patch near to where you live.  What about practice nursing, no weekends and again, more regular hours.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

My husband works for one of the large water companies,so visiting various sites he can take Spice with him to work.I am waiting until she is a little older and then I shall take her to work with me some days,I work 3days for a charity travelling all over the counties of Surrey,Hants and bits of Berks and Sussex. We hope to get her into P.A.T so I could then take her into Day Centres or homes,if they are happy to have a visit from a P.A.T. dog :) The charity I work with are more than happy for me to take her with me once she has passed some checks with P.A.T. I sometimes come across P.A.T dogs in the course of my work within some of the hospitals at the moment and have so far met one in a Day Centre.
