Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / are these signs?
- By mumford16 [gb] Date 30.05.04 08:50 UTC
Hi guys

i would appreciate your opinions, my bitch was mated 30 days ago, she is not eating very much the last few days, and she looks bigger already, she is very calm she was slower on her walk yesterday. Are these good signs or are they too early and perhaps signs of a phantom? She is being scanned on tuesday, but i am not sure whether these signs are positive or not.

We are on day 50 and there has been no sign at all of slowing up.  Her size increased from about 30 days onwards and I did measure her with a tapemeasure to ensure I wasn't fooling myself into thinking she was bigger.  Her girth has now increased by 1/3.

Have you noticed any change in her nipples?  I guess you won't know for sure until the scan on Tuesday, but don't forget that doesn't always tell the full story as we are often hearing on here.

It is a very anxious time isn't it?  Fingers crossed for you.  Good Luck

PS My dog has started collecting and her kennel is full of anything she can get her hands on - plant pots, slippers, gardening gloves, stuff put out for recyling, bones, chews, etc!  It's really amusing but I don't know what use she thinks it will be :-)

she was still very hyper going on her walk, its just that she slowed up earlier in the walk and was content to just stay near me and my daughter where as normally she belts around constantly, she walked very nicely to heel all the way home and was just 'perfect' really, not quite normal for her, she does walk well on the lead but if one of the kids is with me she usually likes to keep up with them :D

She is definitley larger but i wasn't expecting that so soon, i saw my breeder and the stud owner at bath on Friday and they haven't seen her but both are saying she will be and my breeder says that the stud owner is 'never wrong' even with predicting how many and he said 7  , i suppose tuesday will tell, i am trying not to get my hopes up but its so hard especially when she is looking like she ate too much!! her nipples are black so i am not sure if they are supposed to change colour or not.

We bought a crate on friday at bath and some vet bed, we put the crate up to see it and put some vet bed in there and she got in and went to sleep!! she loves it, but its not supposed to be for her it is supposed to be for the pup that we keep, but if she loves it i supposed we should leave her with it.

Emma
p.s. good luck with your bitch, let me know how she gets on ;)

Our bitch is on day 27 she has been fussy with her food for the past week - eating Tripe(yuk!) not interested in any dried food only bonio type bics, kept a diary of her frm last time and things are following a similar pattern.  So all she will eat at mo is Tripe/tuna/bics/pasta....have just bought Puppy food and she refused that too!  I hate this stage.

she is happily munching on a pigs ear as i am typing this, its her dried food she is not interested in too! i did buy some meat but thats not really been touched either, what do you suggest? she will eat bananas and apples and such like, shall i try tuna? i don't want her not to eat! but i don't know what to do for the best, or whether to leave her and let her eat when she is ready.

I have just mixed Tuna with dried puppy food and she has turned her nose up at it, have given Tuna & bics she has eaten it.............?????????  My other dogs are well happy as they are getting what she wont eat!  I shall make some scrambled egg for her for later on.....at this stage as long as she eats something during the day.  Looking at notes from before this lasts about 10 -14 days!!!

Try adding some Butchers Tripe to the biscuits.  It's tinned but according to my vet, doesn't contain anything nasty and dogs seem to love it.  Mine certainly does.  She also turns her nose up at dried food at the moment so I made her a sort of rice pudding with eggs and goats milk which goes down well.  Is it any surprise they don't want dried when we offer them so many other niceties?!!!!

She has eaten her scrambled egg!! Hurrah!
Will get a tin of Butcher's Tripe tomorrow and see what she makes of that

Cheers

Hiya,my Jade done exactly the same, went off her food at around 28 daysish and although quite hungry now will only eat her food with butchers tinned tripe(excellent stuff),oh and she raided the cupboard in the night and dragged out a huge net of 50 pigs ears and managed to devour at least half the contents, lol. As you probably know Jade was scanned last wednesday and is definately in whelp,so i would say your girl is showing all the "right"signs, good luck for tuesday.

Mabel did just the opposite and from about day 21 went inot eating mode - she is usually quite picky, and sometimes has to be tempted to eat.  Usually will only tolerate commerical dog food (she eats her Eukanuba but we have tinned or pouches as an extra tasty to encourage eating)a couple of times per week, and gets chicken, lamb, cooked fresh!  However, she is now perfectly happy with the chum pouches, and is really wolfing all her meals down.  She was very active right up to about day35 - much more active than normal, but from then on has gong into "madonna" mode, calm, even languid, posing on the back of the sofa and happy to let life come to her.  However, she is much noiser than usual, which I have never had before in a pregnant bitch.  On day 52 now.
bye

It is very worrying when they dont eat.
Anna is now on day 34 and stopped eating at day 19 and had alittle morning sickness, vet told me to give anything that she will eat as long as its senible so for the last 2 weeks Anna has lived off raw chicken wings, cooked pigs liver etc.
She will start eating again as this is just a phase, now anna has just started eating again 2 days ago and will eat anything in site so I have to keep an eye on her lol. She is now eating her complete and a bit of butchers tripe she loves the stuff.
The not eating lasted 13 days with Anna and I thought that if I was giving her all these nice things she wouldnt go back to her normal food but she has.
Dont worry t much near enough all bitches go through this stage but when she starts eating agaian believe me there will be no filling her lol
Good luck

When one of my girls was pregnant, she stopped eating around day 18 and didn't start again until after the pups were born!  One day she would eat pasta/tuna, another tripe........even went for a couple of days of eating CAT food, it was a very long 6+ weeks, but we got there in the end, spent a fortune on all the different foods though ;-)

Her funniest craze was fairy cakes......lol.
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 31.05.04 11:11 UTC
Now Sharon, how did she develop that craze?  I know we indulge our dogs but making fairy cakes!!!!!  With pink icing and hundreds&thousands?

lololol!  :-)
- By SharonM Date 31.05.04 12:03 UTC
Lol......just the sponge cake no hundreds and thousands, the kids actually offered her one thinking she wouldn't eat it as she was off everything else, much to their horror she ate it and a few more after too!  :-)
- By mumford16 [gb] Date 31.05.04 11:54 UTC

i just gave her tuna on its own and that went down a treat, even gave me a huge kiss & Cuddle afterwards, so i know that works!!

Have just cooked her some pasta to have with boiled egg later.......we shall see if she has gone off that now!  Wouldn't eat the tripe last evening much to the pleasure of my other dogs! :)

Great news!!
How's the eating thing going?  My 'little teasure' has since yesterday turned her nose up at everything I have offered her before, Rice pud/Tuna/egg etc yesterday she liked Liver(grilled)!!! It is so frustrating.

- By mumford16 [gb] Date 02.06.04 08:55 UTC
it's not, but the wonderful lady who did the scan said just to let it run its course as it's natures way of teaching them to eat less when they are much bigger with the pups. She has been dealing with dogs for over 40 years and is well respected so i will go with what she says, besides the wind that has come from the tuna and eggs is NOT FUNNY :D :D

hey
good luck with the feeding, ours just went off her food today, turned her nose up to everything, even cheese and chicken wings! its only bin 14 days since she was mated but im sure someone said there bitch went off on day 14-18? sorry im usless with names! i tried her with the butchers tripe, brilliant tip, loves the stuff! but i was wondering, you all seem to mention giving them eggs, unfortuantly eggs dissagree with our dogs stomach, can you suggest anything else thats a viable alternative?
betty :-)
- By sweep Date 02.06.04 14:53 UTC
Hhhhhhmmmmmmm.......my angel has now gone off eggs and I have a plate of cold scrambled egg sat on my side, every time I go out to the kitchen my other 3 dogs think they are getting it!  All she has had today is some grilled Liver again.  She looks so sad and sorry for herself, other than this 'fussy' eating she is fine.  Still wont touch any dryed food or tinned! Not even a bonio! Ate a sausage roll last night though ??!!

Pork sausages broken into small pieces fried not grilled are what one of my bitches loved when she was pregnant. But have to be good quality ones from butchers they have some cereal in them as well so won,t make them to loose. Oh and must feed them while there still warm! mine wasn,t as keen when they were cold. I also gave vitamin supplement seperately.
