Hi we have a 3 year old brindle staff named Bailey he is a fantastic dog he is great with my kids and other dogs. We are looking to have another staff pup but we would like to have another male can any one give us some advice. Thanks

Some people have two males live together in harmony others have horror stories about the two of them fighting for dominance. Think you'd need to have more of an age gap between two dogs maybe a puppy of 6mths and a dogs of five years old would be a better combination if you chose to get another dog but personally I think you'd be better of to get a bitch.

Must admit that being more experienced with males I was originally considering another male but was advised not to by other experienced owners. My own dogs temperament is brilliant - he's friendly with all others etc but I was still advised to get a bitch.

SBT males will fight till the bitter end to be the winner and to be the dominant one were as bitches are easier to seperate if they begin fighting. The first thing we were told when we started looking for a SBT was not to keep two males together unless they were years apart but even then the oldest dog can still bite back and the youngest dog can still try its luck on so maybe avoidance is the best cure here?

One thing to point out as well is that even though our own dogs have brilliant temperaments it doesnt necessarily mean the new addition will have

Very true lel. And some dogs start of as very placid and can become nasty in their later years.

Had a Stafford male years ago and he was a "gentleman" a proper laid back dog and lived happily with first one then two bitches. But when he was 12 (we lost him at 16) a friend of a friend, got divorced and I tried to bring her young dog into the house, until she was settled he was a Staff who was 2. All went well for about a week as Sam was used to other dogs in and out. And had known this pup since he was 7 weeks But then a scuffle broke out, and I must say it was difficult. I would not reccomend 2 males Staffs.

Bitches may be easier to seperate, but unless SBT's are a VERY different breed, once two bitches take a dislike to each other, they can be impossible to live with - somebody on here sums it up very nicely - 'dogs fight for breeding rights, bitches fight for BREATHING rights!'

Hi all i have 2 females with no problems at all, i also have a male and still no problems, i used to have another male but we had to rehome him due to him constant fighting with his father, i would recomend not to get another male as if you dont have problems now i wouldnt risk up setting the male you have, good luck.
