Our 5 year old cavalier king charles has only just begun to exhibit symptoms of what we believe may be fly catching syndrome. His include staring at the carpet and lunging forward at an imaginary beastie and jumping like larry the lamb! We would value any information anyone can provide us with.

I would suggest you get veterinary advice as soon as possible as in Cavaliers this can be very serious

"Flycatching: continuous behaviour of a dog snapping at non-existant flies. It is unclear whether this condition is epileptic in nature or of a repetitive obsessive-compulsive problem"

Well before 5 the clinical symptoms of Syringomyelia have usually manifested themselves(at least according to Claire Rushton the Vet who is researching SM). Might be worth the poster visiting thissite & looking on the health pages

One of mine fly catches well he tries to but only if the flies are really there. They mainly spend there time watching the birds waiting for a time to flush them
