can someone give me advice on this subject before i visit my vet

my bitch should be due in to season at the end of june while brushing her last night i noticed that her teats are very enlarged and her stomach looks bloated

she is jest coming up to 2 years old and her next season in june is her third

anyway the reason im asking  for advice is
1 can a bitch have such a thing as a silent season?
2 if so can she get pregnant?
3 if she can get pregnant will the pups be ok ie ?deformed

any advice/info will be greatfully recieved

To answer your questions in numerical order. :D

1.  Yes a bitch can have silent seasons, my Gordon has had one.

2.  Yes again, the bitch can get pregnant. So be careful.

3.  No the pups will be as normal as if they came from a "normal" season. 

Sounds like your bitch is having a phantom pregnancy.  Or if you have a entire dog, and the bitch did have a silent season, they may have mated, and she could be pregnant.  Why don't you join, its free, and we will be able to give you much more constructive advice.  As you will be able to explain better, not being confined to a single post. :)

Hi guest, I would keep a very close eye on her, the problem sounds hormonal and there could be an increased chance of Pyometra. Are you intending to breed? If not I would think about spaying to safguard against future problems. :-)

A friend of mine has 5 bitches and 3 dogs, all of the bitches have silent seasons ie. no colour, no swelling, nothing at all to show they are in season, just the fact her boys are interested.  They have all gone on to have healthy litters.  It does make it a bit difficult when she plans a litter as she can never tell when the first day is, so has to go for the  premate tests!
