What reason

Because of the ingredients.
The largest single ingredient is maize (corn) which is a cereal that dogs are not designed to eat and which is tryptophan deficient. Both maize and barley can prove problematic to dogs which have a gluten sensitivity.
Soya is not a suitable food for dogs, it is a thyroid inhibitor and "binds" some nutrients so they are not available to the dog, and also is a prime source of gas/wind.
Yeast is certainly something I would never deliberately feed a dog, I don't want them to have fungus so why feed it?
Milk derivatives - again the dog is not designed to digest milk and if lactose intolerant or allergic to casein this can produce wind and diarrhoea.
The fish, chicken and potato are ok though :)
It does not mention what the minimum percentage is of fish and chicken are either; this food must be at least 50% cereal which are incomplete proteins and there are no added amino acids.
But obviously this is JMPOV
Organic maize, organic barley, fish meal approved by OF & G as a certified product, organic chicken (including min 4% fresh chicken),organic oats, organic whole soya beans, yeasts, potato, organic sunflower seeds, organic sunflower oil, organic milk derivatives, organic peas, minerals and vitamins, organic seaweed meal, organic herbs (rosemary and parsley). Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or antioxidants.
If it's sold in a supermarket then it would be down the bottom of my list,i have and will never feed a supermarket brand, there are too many superior foods to choose from! I think tohme replied in a very civilised manner considering what i bet she really was thinking ;)

Thank you Tohme for your balanced response, unlike others that have responded.
Having fed 2 retrievers on Pascoes all their lives (13 & 15 1/2) they were very healthy and fit on it.Indeed it was initially recommended by our vet 25 years ago.
Seeing i am the only other one who responded,i assume you are reffering to me? I would be interested to hear what your view of "unbalanced" is.Maybe next time i will sugarcoat my response and reply in a manner of what i think the poster WANTS to HEAR and not neccarsarily my honest opinion, which was what was asked of us in the first place

Not everyone has the same views on certain things and especially NOT when it comes to nutrition which is after all the foundation of good health for all living things,if you want to feed the above brand go right ahead,it's not my dogs you are feeding! I just thought i could help one more person feed their dog a decent food but alas my concerns have been misplaced once again!

I have just re-read you post and realized you didnt even ask an opinion of pascoes,ah well too late to delete my above post now :embarrased:
B.T.W a vet would be one of the last people i would ask about pet nutrition, their answer will always be whatever lines their pockets, especially when the advice was given 25 years ago, holistic and natural feeding was still in the cupboard back then!

Do you think, then, that vets never update their knowledge, never read a journal, never attend a seminar. I am not sure about vets but certainly other professions have to show evidence of continous study in order to maintain their registration so it well be the case with vets even in the unlikely event that such intelligent people do not bother on their own account. Maybe there are vets only interested in lining their pockets, after all it takes all sorts to make a world :) but out of the several vets I have used in my lifetime I have not met one yet so its hard for me to believe that sort are in the majority.
