Hi folks, looking for some help again.
My male yellow lab is moulting really bad. It has been going on now for 6weeks, he is brushed every day and the garden looks like it been snowing. the floors need sweeping twice a day and i've never seen so much hair. he's 10months old so i was wondering if it's his puppy fur as when i sweep it seems more like fluff than hair. he should be bald by now but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. he seems perfectly healthy eats well excercises and doesn't scratch alot. he's been wormed had all his vacinations. he's a perfectly happy young dog so i find it hard to believe there may be anything wrong but also can't believe that this much hair loss is normal. i need to hear from other Lab owners to see if it's normal. PLZ HELP!!!

Sounds about par for the course. The coarser outer hair comes out first with the finer under coat following. It also gives the impression of moulting from one end to the other. Possibly because of the time spent outside in the field mine seem to moult earlier than most and have been finished for a couple of months. Wont be long now and Anna will be getting her winter coat

Best wishes, John

Sounds like the puppy moult to me. Wouldn't worry about it if the new hair looks healthy and he is well in himself. An investment in one of the vacuum companies shares might be a good idea. Welcome to those with hairy houses. Think yourself lucky, I have five double coated dogs, and vaccuum the kiving room at least twice a day for all the good it does me, as someone is moulting all the year round. :D

It's normal in my house too. My Lab sheds all the time, year round, by the bucketful. In winter, I keep my house fairly warm because it's sooooo cold outside, and she's inside a good deal of the time, as we have so much snow here. We go for our walks and go outside some, but not enough for her to hang onto a winter coat much. Then comes spring and hot summers. It's just never ending. Yes, stock in Hoover would be good.
Nightmare in my house too!! Labs & gsd all losing coat together. Hoover lives in corner of room as no point putting it away :)

My dog, a mixed breed, also moults like this. The fluff you describe is the undercoat.
I find using a shedding blade really helps to remove the undercoat when moulting. If you use this regularly there should be less coat in your house! That's the theory anyway ;-)
