Topic Dog Boards / Health / my APBT has a severe limp
- By Pitbull Owner [gb] Date 26.05.04 10:26 UTC
I live between UK & Czech Republic where i am lucky enough to have a 4 1/2 yr female American Pitbull Terrier.  However recently she has developed a severe limp in one of her hind legs.  My problem is that i don't understand enough of the native language to be able to fully comprehend what is wrong with my dog.  My partner has taken her to the vets and has been told it is genetic problem common to the breed and she now has weekly injections.  So what exactly is the problem arthritis? rheumatism? Any APBT lovers/experts out there who may be able to shed some light on the problem?

As Pitbulls are ileagal in this country, and any leagllay owned ones would be in theri teen years you are unlikley to get yourm answer here, as it is a predominatly UK forum.

why not do a Google search for American Stffordshire Terrier lists or AMPT forums?

Recond this one is a troll Barbara. For someone who does not understand English they write it as well as I do ;)

Jackie, it sounds to me like the dog is in the Czech republic and she doesn't undersand that language, at least that's how I read it, could be wrong.... sorry can't be of any help, maybe you could use a friend who is bi-lingual?

Wonder why that was not made clear then, the poster has joined so may be they will let us know what is the problem with the dog. We may then be able to help, but if it is a problem that is only found in the APB then I doubt it.

re reading my post certainly better than my typos!

I read it as poster is in Czech too :)

i read it as poster is in czech republic.thing is the apbt is a dog bred on the whole for performance and not looks and as far as i know there are no real problems with anything particular to the breed, well i owned them for 20 years and its the first i have heard.sorry i can be of no more help.

I read it that its the native czech language that they dont understand. Maybe there is a few uk residents on here that dont understand their own language.

I have to agree with cooper here I have never heard of anything genetic that would cause a pit to be lame.

Sorry Brainless but there are a few experienced "previous" owners of APBTs on this board and some present owners from Eire who could comment or may be able to help this poster. Its not correct to categorically say that its unlikely to get an answer on here.

Regards Mick

Hi Mick , nice to seeyou again :D

I did rather mean on the genetic/breed specific disease front, as 12 years is quite a few generations and in that time a condition may become established that wasn't known previously :D

Nothing back from the original poster.

You may be right with that brainless as a lot of dodgy breeding started when they were banned and forced underground.
When will the powers that be realise that prohibition on anything Drink/Drugs/Dogs/Etc only makes it more attractive and leaves it open for abuse by unscrupulous people who want to make a buck. Or maybe they do and thats why they do it.
