We're moving next month, but we still haven't got a definite date yet (Gr rr rr). Therefore I can't book our 2 young labs into kennels, and it's getting near the main holiday season.... :( :( :( We haven't got any friends who could cope with the two of them. If all else fails, has any one any suggestions of how to manage? (We're only moving locally). Thanks.
Cathy.

Every time I've moved house (being a Forces child, we moved a lot!) we simply cleared one room, shut the animals in there till the removal men had gone, then loaded us all into the car and set off too. At the other end the animals (dogs, cats, guinea-pigs) stayed in the car till we sorted out a room to put them in there, and repeated the exercise. Never had any problems.

You could always invest in a couple of crates for them to keep them secure while people are going in and out of the house all the time.

I agree with JG on this. I've moved about 6 or 7 times with dogs. It IS easier if someone can take them for the day, but I know it's not always possible. The only thing I would say about leaving them in the car is to keep an eye on the weather. Obviously if it's a hot day the dogs will overheat quickly. Yes, I know it's an obvious thing to state, but common sense seems to go out of the window when you're panicking about which piece of furniture and which box goes into THAT room. :D

If you're moving locally can you not leave the dogs in the 'old' house with their beds until you have a room in the new one you can put them in?

Good luck with the move.

When we moved recently my pet sitter let me down at the last moment, so we had to cope with Cam. It was fine - we actually put him in the car (where he just sleeps - mind, it was winter and a cold day) while the removal men were around.

My top tip would be to try to take him to the new place a couple of times if poss before you actually move for a sniff around - it'll be much more familiar territory when you do move.

Good luck

Jo
