My gran has a tibetan spaniel which she got via rescue.  Both my gran and I groom her on a regular basis but feel it would be far better if we could take her to a recommended dog groomer who will know how a tibbie should be groomed, feet trimmed etc.  I would be really grateful if someone can recommend a good groomer in the Co Durham, Newcastle or even Northumberland area.

Sorry Claire, I can't as never taken Cam to a groomer before. But, there is a very highly recommended  Kennels in Washington just outside of Newcastle that has a vets/groomers attached - called Triple AAA. You could investigate them?

Hi Clair,  it all depends on if you are looking for someone who is fully experienced in the TT show and pet trim, or you want someone who is a good, competent groomer, with some exprience of TTs?  Let me know, and I should be able to pint you in the right direction.  (and yes, Triple A is a great place, we go there for ringcraft, hydrotherapy etc, the grooming falls into the 2nd category I mentioned, of competent pet groomers, but would think very limited knowledge of specialist TT requirements)

I think its a Tibetan Spaniel, not a Tibetan Terrier :-)

So it is, I think I must have TT on the brain after we seem to have had so many enquires on the visitors board for them in the last couple of months!  However, same details apply, if I know what she is looking for I will be able to put her in touch with someone in the area.

I know of Triple AAA as I used to work as a vet nurse for the vets that looked after their dogs, cats etc.  This was some years ago now but it was a pretty decent place back then and had a good rep.

I've had someone recommend a place in Concorde, Washington so will be giving them a call to see whats what.  This tibbie is not going to be shown she just needs tidying up a bit, however we do want a groomer that knows what they are doing as we want her to look like a tibbie afterwards !  That may sound silly but I tell you, I once took my jack russell terrier to a groomer some years back and when she came out she looked like they had used sheep shears on her :rolleyes:

I think your best bet would probably be Margaret Young in Sunderland - while they dont have Tibis, they do show (very successfully) in the Utility group, and I have heard very good reports of the grooming service.  Triple A have changed hands quite recently, and is a very different set up now (they have an onsite Vets) but both there and The Doghouse are capable "pet" groomers, who probably dont have too much idea of Tibetan Spaniels trim, pet or otherwise.  However, i am sure either would give a competent service, and treat the dog well.

I know and excellent grooming in Newcastle , people come from all over to her. She is a westie exhibitor also so she is skilled in the terrier trimming.
