Anyone got any nice holidays planned this year - and if so where ?
cant wait to go away this summer , although it will only be a cottage somewhere in the Uk with doglets :) but looking forward to it none the less :D

Hi Lel :-D  My holliday has to be a 'dogs holiday' as well ( sad dog obsessed person :-P  ) We are all going to a cottage in Pembrokshire again (4th year different cottages) Dog/son/hisgirlfriend/me all to walk the coastal path... breathtaking views with seals and dolphins to be occasionally seen in the bay...and many many seabirds ...and no people. The cottage this year is in a group of 4 with its own beach. Above is Carn Ingli (sp?)..'Mountain of Angles' The sad thing is my little dog is 13yo with a heart murmur and won't be able to do the long walks this time, although she is still pretty fit and walks a couple of miles through the buttercups and long grass every day. Still, when we are away I will carry her when she gets tired, she likes being carried and enjoys sniffing the air with the wind in her beard. I know deep down in the pit of my stomach that this year may be her last year holiday. She has been an amazing dog and companion and when she crosses rainbow bridge I hope it is while running through the grass :-(

Can't wait for my holiday as I live I Germany and we are off to my parents house in Lyme Regis,Dorset..Just to walk along the beach eating ice cream is soo relaxing after a 13 hour drive from here....BUt the best thing about my holiday will be I am picking up a new pup who I can't wait to meet...

Reddoor - holiday sounds idyllic and just what Im after for  my lot :)
- By janie2674 [de] Date 28.05.04 12:03 UTC
Hi Reddoor, glad you like Lyme regis I can not think of a better place to spend my holiday.Yes I know Allhallows but it has closed down as a school now, shame as I was going to send my eldest son there which would have been handy with my parents living down the road. The Cobb is a great place as my boys like to shrimp there and catch crabs.Back in 1986 I use to work in the Cobb Arms pub just by the harbour and my parents use to run a B & B in Lyme.

The puppy I am getting is a little boy weimaraner who will be nearly ten weeks old when I go to collect him.The breeder is really nice and is going to hold on to him for me a couple of weeks longer as she knows I can't get to Uk til mid july..he is coming to join our happy house with our 5 year old brindle boxer bitch Dixie .

Hope you visit Lyme again one day...it is a place everyone loves and always comes back too...:-)

I saw a lady in the park once with a little trolley thing it was like a box on wheels with a grill at the front and  her little dog was sat in it and every so often she let her out for a little walk at first I didnt realize she was an old dog thought the woman was batty but when I caught up with her she said I have brought my dog to this park everyday of her life but now she cant walk far so I bring her in this letting her out for the smells of the grass etc,,,and she said also it gets me out too  if I get tired I can lean on the trolly I thought how lovely.
Maybe you could get one on the trolleys

We are having a holiday this year, the first one since '96.  Although life here is one big holiday I managed to persuade OH that we should get away and so before he could change his mind I swiped his credit card and booked a Caribbean cruise for the end of November.  House, dog & cat sitters are booked.
- By BennyBoo [gb] Date 28.05.04 09:13 UTC
No holiday for me this year at all, as such!  I'm going to T in the Park, apart from that staying at home!

Boring, eh?  :)
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 28.05.04 12:49 UTC
We're off to Center Parcs in Holland in August, have heard loads of good reports about it so fingers crossed, just need to sort the dog/cat sitter now...

- By ClaireyS Date 28.05.04 12:56 UTC
Im off to Gran Canaria for two weeks with some of my girly friends - much fun to be had there ;)

Me and OH also have a few camping trips planned (with the pup) and possibly a trip to Spain with my friend and her new hubby to stay at her parents Villa :)

Hi earl, i went to mexico (cancun) in april i though it was great and would go back again. We stayed in cancun itself, there is plenty of shopping malls if you like to shop and a good choice of bar resturants, also plenty of trips to go on,the highlight for me was to swim with dolphins loved it.Oh, the beaches are beautiful to.
- By earl [gb] Date 28.05.04 15:01 UTC
Thanks Duddles, shopping, dolphins and beautiful beaches have sold it to me!  I've always wanted to swim with dolphins.  Just have to get OH to the travel agents.

Well off to sunny Spain in a couple of months just for a few days to pick my new boy up and also my friends new girl, so it won't be much of a holiday but can't wait!!  WIll take a few days off once I arrive home as he's not used to living in a house :d  Should be fun.
- By earl [gb] Date 29.05.04 14:56 UTC

There is a CAC show at the start of July in Patras this year I believe, and we have a large flat in Patras.  So we might combine business and pleasure and take a trip to Greece with the dogs. :D   The last thing we do before leaving Switzerland is quote A Fish Called Wanda; passports, tickets, money. :D

The dogs love traveling to Greece, especially as we usually leave Switzerland an 9:00 P.M. to get through Italy before the roads block up, and the dogs LOVE late night rides. :D Have no idea why. :D  You should see them on the ferry,  they would spend all day and night with their heads poked throgh the bars feeling the wind and the spray on their faces.

We're taking Spice to explore Norfolk,we've been before but she hasn't :D
She has had her first hol.with us though in Dorset in Eype. Then later in the year we may try Scotland,as two of my sisters have moved up there and keep asking us to come visit, they haven't met Spice yet, only seen the pics.
Next year? now that's a different story ;) if Spice settles well into kennels,we may go back to my Brother in Canada! or explore more of the States.

Well, we've already had our holiday, May 8th -17th in the Lake District. We booked a wonderful cottage with its own garden called "Thwaite Moss". Only nearby buildings are one farm and you look out the window and all you see are hills, sheep, cattle, and trees etc. plus lots of wildlife. The garden was full of bluebells and swallows were everywhere too - one even tried to fly into our open back door!

Half an hour to Ambleside and nearest shop a drive away to the nearest village. Lots of walks although you have to be careful of the cows and sheep. One great walk was to catch the ferry along Ullswater, and walk the 7 miles back along the lakeside.....rockier and rougher than i thought, but the scenery was just stunning.

My OH did a walk over the Langdale Pikes - and has photos of sheep on seemingly inaccessible places! They really do get everywhere so dogs are on leads a lot....but if you are doing long walks it is OK. We also found a park in Ambleside which had fantastic views of the fells and no sheep :D

It was bliss having no telly and no mobile reception - oh, and a log fire.....!! :)

Lindsay.. :-D sounds just my sort of thing and so good for dogs as well! Glad you had such a lovely time. I hope everyone who has posted has a wonderful 'holiday to remember' and that of course goes for the dogs too! ;-)
- By mattie [gb] Date 31.05.04 08:26 UTC
wouldnt it be lovely if us doggy folk could say swop houses for a week say  someone in the south wanted to come north could be for a show or something and vice versa especially if we have kennels even better then  all the  doggies would definitly be welcome :)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 31.05.04 10:17 UTC
Mattie - that is such a good idea - house swapping - only families with dogs allowed - seriously, it could be a source of income for Labrescue if you could co-ordinate something like that!!

We should have been away and come back by now - we were going to Sri Lanka & then on to Hong Kong, but because I had bronchitis so badly, I was advised to forget all about flying for the next couple of months - so I think we'll just be going to Honkers probably at the end of August/September.

Dogsitters already in residence..... Kippers can have their uses at times :D

- By LF [gb] Date 02.06.04 07:22 UTC
How lucky you are Margot, my ex-Kipper is so gormless even if she came back to stay she'd be clueless with the dogs and they'd end up looking after her ;)

We're hopefully going to Paris :D  Has anyone any experience of using the budget airlines and online booking of hotels to go there, only we've discovered we could fly a budget airline and book seven nights for £100 less than it would cost to go with a holiday company for five nights.  But being a cynic, I'm deeply suspicious that there must be a catch :D  Any tips gratefully received!!

Hi Lesley

When in Paris definitely do the Bateaux Mouche (sp?) dinner boat cruise.  It does seem expensive when you book it, but it was the best thing we did when we were there and as you get a four or five course meal, champagne and wine, it's not really that bad.  They have a website and you're advised to book well in advance as they are always fully booked.

We flew with Ryanair and the only problem was that we couldn't land at Beauvais due to fog so they took us to Lisle (sp again!), which is near the border with Belgium, and although we could've waited for the coaches, we decided just to make our own way to Paris, which ended up costing us another £50 or £60 per person and took a good few hours.  It also meant that we didn't know where to get the coach back to Beauvais and had to make our own way there and almost missed the plane.

Hope this is helpful.  Have a good holiday!  :)

Crazy Horse Saloon (if it is still there)!
- By Jax [gb] Date 02.06.04 11:35 UTC
Hi Lesley

Where is the hotel in Paris?  I lived there for 4 years.  If you want you can PM me and I'll give you some tips on where to go and where not to go  ;)

Jax
- By LF [gb] Date 02.06.04 12:07 UTC
Thanks Earl, Tohme and Jax!

I must admit Ryanair, Beauvais and its one bus after the flight etc sort of put me off and Earl's experience doesn't fill me with confidence :D  However, I've discovered Easyjet fly from Newcastle to Charles De Gaulle and I'd be more confident about that because of CDG's better links into Paris - if only I could get the disasters shown on that TV series about Easyjet out of my mind ;)

If the Crazy Horse Saloon is still there, Tohme, we'll find it, have a drink for you and report back :D
