Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / First Dogie class last night......

Hi FOlks

I took my wee staffie rescue Sky to our first dog class last night.  It was a big adventure for both of us.........I was told by the rescue that Sky was not good with other dogs and in fact could be quite aggresive....

I took her to meet the class manager/trainer on Saturday to let her meet Sky and see what kind of tempremant she had with people and the trainer thought she was a wee cracker....of course she is she lovely:)

So she said to bring her last night........she had two helpers in class to help me in case there was a problem and we introduced Sky to all the dogs by walking her round them close enought to kind meet at the nose just.....but not close enought to leap on them......she loved it.......definately has not had much in the way of meeting other dogs but not total aggresive and over the top......so i have been told that we can come back to class and whilst it might take a wee bit longer....the trainer is confident that Sky and I will fit in fine and that Sky will settle and enkoy the class.....which I sure is right cause after 10 mins we were walking round with  the other people and dogs and sky's tail was wagging so hard and she kept looking up at me saying "this is great"...we even went thru a tube thing.......

Some people who don't "know" Staffs think that the Staffie welcome to other dogs is aggresive but it's not Staffs play "full on" and no holds barred. I would think if Sky has not been introduced to other dogs much that she would be "OTT"

But your first introduction sounds excellent very positive, and you look like you've landed on your feet with the trainer and class :)

Take it steady and I'm sure she'll love her new found friends, as much a they will love her.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first class together. Id love to have seen her tail wagging and her melon grin. :)

Oh, that sounds great! I think you're going to love it and what a great way to get your dog comfortable with lots of dogs. Good luck! Let us know how things go as you go along.
