Barney has slept a lot today and wakes up as it he doesnt know where he is for a few seconds. Not like him AT ALL. Can the antibiotics he is on (1 a day in two halves) make him like this. He has had 1 and a half so far. I dont think I will carry on with them if they are going to make him confused like this. Many thanks Gina.
They are called Synulox.

IMO no this is not caused by the antibiotics, if you are worried phone your vet and let him know what is happening - they should be able to put your mind at rest or sort the problem out. JH

Shall do so in the morning. I think I may be over reacting again as I tend to worry about them both all the time. He seems okay now. Gina
Hi Gina
Anti-biotics can (but don't always) make mammals sleepy but speak to your vet before you stop them as not taking the full course could cause long term problems. (ie make the problem immune to that particular antibiotic). Quite often it is useful for a dog to be sleepy when on anti-biotics so that they don't strain the affected part if it is an infected wound or something.

Hello everyone. I didnt stop giving him the antibiotics because I had a feeling it might be wrong (we have to continue with our courses dont we). He is well today almost back to normal but when he went for a poo half was okay and half was a bit loose but I suppose this could be the antibiotic. Other than that he is okay. The drug seems to be doing the trick too and no more constant licking of his bits any more. Sorry if I seemed stupid last night but as he is my first pup it is like having your first baby all over again isnt it!!??
many many thanks Gina

You did not seem stupid at all, antibiotics are funny things and can affect different people in different ways, so I would have thought the same would be for dogs, it's not like Barney can tell you he is just having an 'off' day is it? :D
Glad to hear he is on the mend:) How's his leg now?

Hi Reefer. He hasnt been running round like a mad thing today and he is not limping at all. He has just had a bath and so he is now running manically round like he is on something so I will see what happens when he calms down although I have a feeling he will be okay tonight!
We bathed Molly our 11 week old shih tzu as she was really sniffy and needing her bum washed. She went ballistic and screamed the place down, even though I was as quick as I could be and didnt use too much water. I was really upset for her as she was shaking like a leaf afterwards. Even Barney gave her a lick which makes a change as they usually nip one another. I really hope she gets used to it in the future as with her long hair she will need her bath now and again.
Many thanks Gina

Hi Gina
You're not half as bad as I was with the first
puppy I had after I got married. I was forever
phoning my Mum up asking about everything
in case the pup was about to pass on.
All the dogs at home had been my Dads and
it all looks so easy when someone else has
the responsibilty for them. I got through the
first year with no major hiccups started to
relax and like you got a second one.
My Mum said that if I was like that with
the dog if I ever told her I was pregnant
she'd get the first flight out to Australia and
live in the outback for a few months.
Jaq:)
