Anyone out there got any 'Lassie' stories.
As much as i love my little Buddy he ain't no lassie that's for sure. Ha Ha
Whilst out on our walk this morning i slipped on a grassy slope and landed awkward on my foot. No one about thank god to see my tumble was my very first thought. As i sat stunned Buddy (westie) ran straight back to me looking puzzled, probably thinking we don't normally sit down here but hey ho she's the boss.
Getting back on my feet was difficult because of the pain in my foot so i got on all fours and braced myself. Buddy thought this was Play Time and preceded to run through my arms and legs while i pulled all sorts of faces and yelped in pain. It only made him worse he started the excited running in circles and barking around me routine to get me to chase him. I did'nt know whether to laugh or cry. Through gritted teeth and tongue in cheek I told him to 'go for help' but he just wandered into the pond for a paddle. I limped through the park back to the car park and had a very painful drive home.
Buddy's been packed of to brothers for evening and to stay the night for walkies cause i can't even get down the steps to the garden.
I'm full of pain killers, still can't sleep and i miss Buddy my no good Lassie. I'll have to send him to rescue school. Night Night everyone.

A-w-w-w-w....I'm so sorry you hurt yourself. That is no fun. I hope you're going to heal soon. Is it torn tendons or ligaments or what? Gosh, well.....I don't think there are too many Lassies so don't be disappointed. At least your little guy tried to cheer you up. I fell off one of my horses when I was a kid and that horse stood over me and breathed on my face until someone came. I ended up being ok, but couldn't move for a while. He was a good boy to stay right there.
Sending positive vibes your way for a speedy recovery. Let us know how you're doing.

Oh gosh, so sorry. I hurt my knee three weeks ago tripping over a tree root whilst walking Abby. Walkies are dangerous for the walker! Make sure your leg is fully recovered before you take your dog out on a walk again. That's the worst - getting guilty whilst you are on the mend and making the injury last even longer.
Take care,
Stacey

Oh wow! Those BCs are really smart!!!! What a cool dog!
Yep, Glazby my boxer isn't much of a lassie either. Took him out the other weekend with another boxer to play. As I stood watching them race round the field I suddenly realised that they were hurtling towards me!! Being the daft thing I am I ended up freezing rather than running out of the way and ended up with approximately 9 stone of boxer ploughing into my leg!! They completely took me out and I ended up in a heap on the floor with a dead leg which I couldn't put any weight on to get up again. Both dogs thought it was great fun and proceeded to jump all over me thinking that I was joining in the game!!
2 weeks later and I'm still limping!!

carrie!! Hi! have you never had a border collie?? too me they are the best dogs ever!! really clever but very quirky from the posts ive read of yours i think youd really like them!!

No, I haven't had a BC. But I bet I would like them. (all except for the hair. I'm into short coats) I love a smart dog and they're the smartest of all. I have a lot of them in my agility class....very cute. I do love a dog with lots of personality, character, humor etc. That's what I love about my Chihuahuas. They're lively, perky and humorous, just not way up there on the intelligence list I don't think. And that's what I love about my Dobe...such a goofball, fun, smart as a whip, elegant....his aristocratic looks certainly defy his almost terrier like attitude....(thus the word, Pinscher) LOL. Love my Lab too....she's just lower key which is very nice too. I really love lots of different breeds, the variety....makes it interesting.
I'd love to hear more about the quirkiness of the Border Collie. That's what my trainer has and they're really clever. It's fun to compare breeds and their differences. Too bad the one about the Dobermans got locked. That could have become interesting, not the baiting that was going on, but the history and what they're good at...what they're not so good at. Oh well...maybe another time.

I have two Siberian huskies and goodness, they aren't the rescue type. Last Monday, May 24, I took the Siberians for a run next to my bike. Their harnesses were on with long leashes, which I held in my hand. Kieron and Houdini usually run on either side of me. (Kieron on my left, Houdini on my right) Well, on the way back from a nice run heading towards home, we passed a house that has a young GR dog. The silly boy decided to startle my dogs are barked very loudly as we passed by. This startled Houdini so much, he stopped running all together. This caused Kieron to run ahead and cross over to the right side, catching her leash on the wheel of the bike. My bike started going hay-wire and threw my over the handle bars and sent me rolling a few feet in the dirt. Some how I managed to keep ahold of both Kieron and Houdini's leashes. Gosh it hurt so bad. Two days later, I have a huge black and blue bruise on my right knee, cuts on my left knee, a slash on my left hand, and scrapes on my right arm where I slide for a few feet. My shoulders are still throbbing in pain and I think I might have also bruised an internal organ as my right side hurts a lot, but only in the inside. *sigh* The whole time I struggled to get up, Kieron and Houdini made it worse trying to drag me over to see the GR pup who was still barking. I managed to drag the dogs and my bike back home, somehow. :)
Hey, Carrie, i've got a quirky border collie, but shes got a short coat! I like to think of her as fairly original although i have come across a few short haired borders recently. It makes them streamlined so they are even faster!

Hey cool. I love sleek. That's one of the things I love about my Doberman.....the sleek black streak. Well, now you've all got my interest peaking about Border Collies. Oh God help me. NO MORE DOGS. I'm maxed out right now. Hee hee hee. Whippets sound nice too. But I am having fun with my Dobe.
He was such a good boy today when I took him socializing. We stopped at the vets, weighed him and visited. He weighs 82.3 Lbs now. He got to sniff noses with a little Pekinese and get attention from the staff and the vet. Then we went to the grocery store and walked around out front with just a flat collar, no pulling, and he got to sniff some tiny kittens that were in a box....someone trying to find homes for them. He's very sweet and gentle, little stub wagging. And then he lay down close to the electric doors while people came in and out with baskets on wheels and he did a nice, long down/stay. When he got up, some people stopped to pat him and he got complimented on his looks and his good behavior. And that was that. I was proud of my little boy today.

the thing about longer coats carrie is they dont fall out as much as shorter ones!!! (although im not sure what would happen in your climate!!!!!!????)
tara my 8yrold,is mad on fly catching, hates any loud noises & is ball crazy, is also as sure footed as a mountain goat.
nell is 4 1/2, is retrieve, scent & sendaway mad! she also talks too me constantly & is very bossy! but needs alot of physical contact ,whereas tara is much more inependant.sometimes on a walk i wonder were nellie is,& as i turn around looking she
hides behind me!!!!
my lovely baby boy is Flynn, hes 18months,& totally obedience line bred! hes huge & very handsome. hes very laid back bout most things, take him anmywhere type,BUT is SCARED silly of people blowing raspberrys!!!

the other funny thing that tara does is on a walk she will pick up a stone to carry,& as she knows shes not allowed to carry stones shell shut her mouth to carry it ,as she thinks if i cant see it i wont know!!!!dosent realise its really obvious on a hot day as she should be panting!!!
whereas tara is sure footed, nellie is not! she has fallen off bridges so many times,as half way over shell turn around & look for me(&fall off the edge!!DOPE!)

Oh my Gosh Lucy! That sounds terrible. Are you going to be OK? That inside pain sounds scary. Maybe that bike thing isn't such a good idea. (That probably has crossed your mind) I am so sorry you have all those ouchies. Do take it easy and get well. Naughty dogs. That sounds more dangerous than some of the bronco rides I've taken on horses. LOL.
Get well soon.

Maybe exercising them on a Springer would be a good idea? This way your hands are free to control your bike and brakes and the dogs cannot go under the wheels?

Hope that you are feeling much better.
Well I had a Lana come home story 2 years ago.
As many of the old timers on here will now my house was broken into 2 years ago, a month after I moved in, and to top it all it was my next door neighbour who did it.
Anyway when I got home Dilita my old girl must have rushed straight into the living room and jumped on the settee as when I got in there was only one cushion on the settee and Dilita was lay on it. Carina was 5 weeks pregnant and ended up getting on the 6 foot high garage and falling off it, being stuck for 2 hours between the fence and the garage until I got home.
Lana well, she was nowhere to be seen. When I went upstairs all my glass wardrobes were tipped up and we were sure that we were going to find her under there dead but luckily we didn't. Well for 2 weeks myself and friends spent all hours looking for her, even the local fire brigade spotted her a 2 in the morning one day but were on a call so went back later to search for her but couldn't find her!! On the 15th day, 10 minutes after arriving at my parents were heard a howling outside, this was at midnight and my parents thought that it was the dog facing, but I just knew, opened the front door and there was my Lana just sat there waiting to come in.
She was a bit skinny and her legs were cut but she still had a kiss for me and wanted to play with her ball!!
So instead of Lassie come home, we had Lana come home. Unfortunately she can't stand children now but she is such a sweetie and we're so glad that we got her back :d
I'm happy to say I'm feeling much better today. Injuries still hurt but not as bad. I have a question, what is a Springer, Tohme? I've not heard of such a thing. If it could free up my hands and keep the dogs away from the wheels of the bike, it may come in handy, whatever it might be. :) You've gotten my curious, now. Thank you all for your well wishes. They have helped!
-Tara
