i have wanted one of these dogs for 2 years, but havent due to fear of the cancer.

I know a very high % of them die from it, whats the %?

Dear Guest.

It is true that Flatcoats do get cancer and as the breed does a lot of research on this it is more highlighted than maybe in other breeds.

There is no "set age" that they get it.  I have known Flatcoats get it at 9 months and others don't succumb until they are 12 years old.  There is no guarantee.

We have had Flatcoats for nearly 50 years as a family.  Yes, we have lost them due to cancer but others have not succumbed.  We love the breed so much that it is something we live with.

Please do not let anyone tell you that there are lines that do not have it - that is rubbish.  ALL lines have suffered from it at some point or other.

At the end of the day you must make the choice but once you have had one they are addictive!
