Topic Dog Boards / Health / My dog wont walk

I have an eight month chocolate labrador, the problem is he wont go for a walk, he just falls on his side and refuses to go out, we have to force him out the door, then he will walk again for around 10 minutes, he seems to pant within minutes and then sleeps for the rest of the day, i know this isnt normal, the vet told me he had parasites and gave me some tablets, but nothing has changed, please advise

I would go and see your vet again as a matter of urgency - this is not normal behaviour for any young dog. I would suspect some underlying medical condition.

im not sure but i think i can remeber reading in one of the dog mags about a condition that made the owners lab go sort of floppy & unable to walk,  i cant remeber what it was called ,was it myopathy?? it was in the mag a good year ago now, does anyone else remeber it?? your dog or dogs today??

Myopathy appears as a muscle weakness in pups of 8wks-11months. Affected pups appear underweight and hold their head low due to muscle weakness.

Could be hips too :(
All very negative but this is not normal for any pup, let alone a Labrador.

Mark does your dog have other symptoms? Does he eat and walk ok when not on the lead? What sort of parisites..has the vet done tests? I think you should inform the breeder in case there is some  as yet unknown hereditory cause. It must be very upseting for you, I hope your dog improves soon
