Since starting to feed barf, I've been into 3 different butchers to find out prices and if they is anything different I can try. When I explain what I want, they look at me as if I'm stupid. And I get the usual questions, Are you sure they can eat bones, don't you give them no dog food at all!! gasp gasp.
You would think butchers would have more idea.
Still haven't found one that sell Rabbit.
Can I feed them Ham Shanks, or Gammon or will that be too salty.

They will have been cooked will they not? Never fed it myself.
Rabbit - don't buy it, it is too expensive, you need to find a friendly "lamper" :D

I said No they eat raw food they k*ll and then eat it...lol and he said well I know she can't go hunting for her food so Please give her raw chicken necks, and that what I do, well not to Gypsy she passed away, a few years ago but with my dogs I have now that and kibble and when they are in pup I also feed then raw beef, chicken necks eggs and pasta:).....

i only pay 1.20 for a whole rabbit, i don't think that is dear, i have a fantastic butcher that makes up raw tripe and veg and cooked tripe and heart and liver he makes it up into a big meat loaf, all my dogs love it, he also cuts up chickens for me in bite size chunks for my rottie and halfs chicken for my gsd who loves big chunks of meat, also he does bulls hearts they are huge and he will slice them up for me as i have not got a knife big enough to cut through it.

I was stood behind a woman in a butchers over the weekend. She bought 3 rabbits and asked for them to be chopped in half. The price was £7.20 which I thought was rather a lot for rabbit - although not the dearest I've seen.
As Tohme says, it may be worth while finding someone who goes rabbiting.

I feed chicken wings mostly as I can get 10 for 30p.
They also get belly pork ribs, they are mostly meat.
They get heart, kidney, liver and tripe.
They get mince, which is usually beef.
Also pigs trotters (free). And for the first time tomorrow they are getting lamb neck (I think it is)
Is that enough variety. Or is there anything else I can pick up cheap.
Obviously they get veg and eggs as well.

Oh yes Tohme, they do get fish.
It's usually pilchards in tomato sauce.
I'm not struck on using Raw fish.
Can they have any tinned fish, or is they some I should steer clear of.

Funnily enough tinned salmon never agrees with them; but pilchards, sardines and mackeral are the best bet; plenty of Omega 3s there.
I hope all you lucky people love your butchers :) supermarkets just arent the real deal and it seems a vanishing trade now more about opening packs than transforming carcases into food. I used to love watching my Dad in the shop when I was young... and assisting a farmer with his sheep sometimes. Happy days! :)
Bull hearts eh? Just the thing. Im off to the market this weekend to find some kneecaps/trotters etc at decent prices.

How often do you think I should feed tinned fish, is once a week enough. Or could I give them it every few days.
