Topic Dog Boards / Health / Switching Pet Insurance.......

I've been with Pet Plan since we got our cross-breed Chelsea just over 6 years ago.  I've been very happy with them.  I LOVE their cover for life, they have always paid up, always been helpful on the phone and I've never had a problem.  Until the past year they were the only company that did give decent cover for life, so I didn't mind paying a bit extra for them when I got my purebred.  I'm now thinking about getting a third dog (again a purebred) and that means the cost is only going to go up!  And now there are some companies out there that are a bit more competetive (so I've found after reading the many Pet Insurance threads over the last few months).

I've had a look at More Than and Marks and Spencers.  They've got semi-comparable cover and although the price is £1-3 more per month for my mix, it's up to £7 less for my purebred and since I'm going to have 2 purebreds that makes a pretty substantial saving over the year.

Pet Plan offers £4-6,000 per condition per year
More Than offers £6,000 per condition over the lifetime of the pet (but how many conditions are going to cost more than 6K over a lifetime - I know some can, but....)
M&S offers £7,000 per year total vet fees, reinstated each year

I'm leaning toward M&S, but I wanted to know what people's experience of both More Than and M&S have been?  Have you had to make a claim - was it pretty straightforward.  If things are going to be difficult I'd rather just stay where I am and pay the extra to know I'm going to get the service.

Also - has anyone switched insurance companies?  How easy was it?  Could you switch mid-policy or did you need to wait till the policy year was up?

Thanks for reading - I know it's 'another pet insurance questions' but I hope it was a bit different.

I did notice that most other policies exclude anything to do with breeding.

I posted this on a holiday weekend so I don't know if that's why it didn't get many replies.  Just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts on what it was like to switch?

Hi..I only switched from PP to JBI as PP did not cover me here in Germany unless I lived in camp which is classed as British turf..Had no problems with JBI and they also do a 2 dog policy with discount..
