My baby is 6mths old and just over 7stone in weight, he is an alaskan malumte any advice, is this normal for his age?

I would've said that 7 stones at 6 months old is too heavy. My first Mal is a large Mal, but even fully grown, he's between 7 and 7 1/2 stone according to whether it's the working season.... If he's too heavy, he can have health problems relating to his weight. What are you feeding him? How much and how often? What level of exercise is he getting?

Feel free to send me a personal message if you would like to :)

Thanks for replying joan, I agree with you, I have a mal bitch which is approx 5½-6 stone max and in fact looks dwarfed by him.  They are both fed a complete feed (hills science)  once a day and wait for it 'ready brek' warmed in the micro every morning although he eats all our leftovers (but our bitch is selective) I should have named him Dyson!  His excercise is moderate due to his age yet to feel him he is not fat but is  solid with tremondous bone, his 'knees' still look large so there is still a lot of growing there, he is approx 3" alround bigger than my bitch.  His ears are still not up and considering I bought him for showing I think I may have a bit of a problem, however, I love him to bits and if he turns out to be a huge floppy eared mal well thats life!  Any advice would be appreciated as a novice mal owner who absolutely loves the breed and incidently am particating in my first advanced obedience comp with my bitch this weekend!  Miracles can happen, she is brilliant although I have always used shepherds I think she is fantastic!!

I can sympathise... my first Mal boy grew extremely fast and when I look at other Mals of 6 months, or even when I think of my second, I can't get over the size he was!!! However, this has caused problems because he came back with a high hip score... even though his parents and siblings are low scores. When I've done research into it, there is a discussion into whether fast growth in puppyhood can affect the hips, which is why I said the weight at his age could cause problems. I don't know Hills, but it may be too high in protein?

Good Luck this weekend, hope you do well :)
