Topic Dog Boards / General / Staffies and their warts!

A lovely topic I know :)
Molly my 9 year old staffie has got loads of warts in the past 2 years or so, 3 of these are now so big that I'm worried about her catching them when she's tearing around on walks.  I took her to the vet last night, and it's going to cost £98 to remove them! :0
Has anyone else's Staffs gone very warty or is it just my Moll?! Not even sure if £98 is extortionate or not, seemed a lot to me just to get rid of a wart!

Any dogs are prone to warts no matter what the breed. It seems most of the time to be in old age.
I had an old girlie who got loads. A couple of which had to be removed, as they were in places where they got knocked.
The price sounds about right, because you have to consider the fact that your dog will be anaesthetised, and then may also need drugs, or blood test.

In all the dogs I've met I'd never seen anything like these before though! :) Just wondered if it was a breed characteristic!

My 5 year old has one.  She has one on her neck.  She also has fatty lumps one on her rump and one under her arm.  My vet quoted my £170 but if I had my bitch spayed at the same time he will do it for nothing.  They are not bothering her so we have left them alone for now.  If they get any worse or she has more appear then we will get them removed.

I love her to bits and wouldn't be without her now.  She is so much fun especially when she decides to let everyone know that she has had enough and wants some peace and quite.  She told Jas and Missy (6 week old pup) off this morning.  Their expressions were priceless.  They looked at each other and then sculcked off to the kitchen to finish their game.  Very funny :)

Hi Rachel

My 10 year old staffy has developed warts in the last few years.  He has one one his nose, which he occaisionally knocks - he did it today and made it bleed!  He has another on his side and one in a very embarrassing place.  When he first delveloped that one I was rather worried and the vet gave me some steroid cream which I had to rub on twice a day.  Did nothing for the wart, but my boyfriend was a little jealous of the dog for a while.

As long as their harmless, I'm happy to leave them where they are and wouldn't really want him to go under general unless it was for something really serious.  If I was you, I'd just leave them where they are.  I've just learned to live with them and love him they way he is - warts and all!

are you all talking about proper warts or just lumps ? warts are contagious, so if they get one, they're bound to get more if they're not treated immediately. and they have to have got them from somewhere in the first place.

I know this may mean nothing at all, but my Staffy has moles on his face. I don't know if thats what you mean....?

They were proper warts, which she's now had removed, because they were catching when she was running around.  She looks very neat and tidy now!  :)
