Topic Dog Boards / General / Another new breed???

Went to the vet's this morning with Purdey, to get her next "fix" of Metacam.   Uncle Vet is very pleased with her, and so we collected her meds and off we went.   Outside are two men, with a very nervous, pale gold, pink nosed, rather fluffy (needing a good brush out, I thought) large dog. We went up, to make friends and I asked, politely (as one does) what mix is was.   "Oh no" I was told, this is a pure pedigree dog.  It's very rare - it's a - ALASKAN SNOW SHEPHERD"!

"Mmm", said I - "wonder when that breed will be accepted by the Kennel Club"!

:D :D :D

They probably truely believed that there dog was a pedigree - how sad

It's a new one to me.  God, I wonder how much they paid for that non-pedigree?  Does sound quite a cute name though so I can see how non-doggy people get pulled in.

Actually, I think that they were the "pull the wool over your eyes" merchants - just the impression I got!

Or they were doing a Lorelei and kidding you on? :D Must add that one to my fake pedigree list as they all know about Pedigree Tripe Hounds now.

Actually, I do believe that Pedigree Tripe Hounds originated in the Perth area, Lorelei - thjey probably originated on Kinnoull Hill!!! :D :D :D

Correct, Margot, they were bred to control the wild tripe herds terrorising the Fair City's domestic haggis, and were known until recently as St Johnstone's Shepherds. :D :D

Do the "old type" PTH still have shorter legs on the left hand side so as to chase the tripe herds up the mountains faster ??? ma feytha taught us so!!! :D :D :D

No, no, no, I think you will find that its the Auchtermuchtie Smoothcoated Haggis Pointer that has shorter legs on the left, which allows them to stand sideways on on steep hills whilst pointing the haggis.  It's my understanding that the "old style" PTH had normal legs, but was unique amongst breeds in being purely vegetarian and this attribute prevented them devouring the tripes upon catching them!  Clearly, if this had not been the case, multitudes of Tripe Hunter's Bairns would have starved to death in the winter due to lack of food.  However, nowadays with the proliferation of fast food joints and supermarkets, this is no longer a worry and the current PTH will eat anything :D

I was once stopped by the local village 'know it all' who asked what breed my dog (a pure bred Lab cross) was - I told him (tongue very firmly in cheek) that he was a Canadian Wolfhound - and he believed me!

Well,

My Rocky is a Wirehaired black and tan Staffie, and if im feeling very cross with him, he is a Black and Tan F***Faced Dog (i do love him really)!!!!!!!

I know vets dont know the ins and oouts of every breed, adn that a saluki x is fairly close to a greyhound... but having been told that she is 9 years old, why did my vet tell me she was underweight and not fit but 'ok for racing' ????????? (and he had been told she is a saluki x, and a lot more saluki than owt else at that!) hmmmmmmm

Anyway she is a Pointy Nosed Madam, and Dill is of course, a Sticky Hound!
