Just looking for some advice. My daughter and my son both have chicken pox. My daughter has them really badly. Last night there was one inside her mouth and this morning her mouth and throat are full of them. She is having difficulty in eating and drinking. I phoned the doctor and she said there was nothing she can do, it has to run its course. They are also starting to spread to her eyes.
Anyone have any experience of this, any advice is welcome.

It's horrible isn't it. My 2 had it when they were pre-school age. My GP gave us calpol to make them feel better, calamine in a cream form in a big tub to stop them scratching & piriton to stop the itch. I have photos of them all scabby. :(
Try & get your GP to at least give you some antihistamine (sp) for them & you can get the calamine cream from the chemist. (you can buy a/h but best if doc prescribes it)

make them comfy with quilts on the sofa, it's amazing how much better they feel after a cuddle & a good comic.

(how old are they? they could be teenagers & theirs me suggesting comics  :))

Your poor daughter! :( In theory the doctor is right, it's a virus so there is no 'cure' but there must surely be some way to alleviate such severe symptoms?

Chickenpox is horrendous :(

Have you tried giving her a little ice cream to temporarily numb her throat and give her some relief?  Calamine lotion is good for the itching, as I believe someone has already said.  Thankfully, I seem to recall that the severe itchiness stage doesn't last too long, it's simply a matter of trying to keep them as comfortable as possible.

Good luck :)

I used to put some calamine in a saucer and some cotton wool balls and let them 'dab' themselves - this seemed to make it a little better :)

Poor little things!  Like Daisy, I used to give them the calomile lotion & cotton wool balls so that they could "paint" themselves.     As we had it in the summer, I also filled up the paddling pool, added some salt and let them stay & play in it as long as they wanted (until they came out all crinkled up!) - kept refilling it with fresh water + salt.  This seemed to give some relief.

My son and daughter both had it together when they were quite young. I armed them both with a new paint brush each and a huge bowl of calamine lotion. Not only did they have great fun 'painting' each other but also it took their minds off it for a little while. Lots of TLC give them what THEY fancy to eat or drink (as the body usually knows) after the weekend they'll be on the road to recovery.:D

i had my 2 daughters and my husband all getting c.pox within days of each other.my hushband was really ill and got infection of the glands in his arm pits he had to sit all night with frozen bags of peas  on them .the kids coped quite well you just need to keep them dosed up on painkillers and find lots to distract them.keep calamine on and u can put lots in the bath.i also let my to have all their favourite foods and sweet/chocolates.A year after my OH getting c.pox he had a burns accident with 3rd degree burns and 3 loads of skin grafts. and he said having c.pox was!!!! worse.so at least when they are over it u can realise it is soooo much better for them to get it when they are little(my to were 11 mths amd 3yrs).my HO nearly had a fit when his mother told him "oh  and i kept u away from children with c.pox to protect you from it" she soon realised she did the wrong thing s baxter

A few years back all 4 of our children had chickenpox over christmas, of course we were in quarantine, no visitors all over christmas which made the children feel worse!

Piriton, calpol and calamine lotion seemed to do the trick and lots of nice cold lollies for their throats and mouth's!

Hi
ive had four children they all had chickenpox at a early age, which is alot better than getting it as an adult because it is less painful when they are young,
my two grand children had chickenpox about 6 weeks ago, i always remembered putting the calamine lotion on cotton wool and most of it was soaked up by the cotton wool and wasted, so when my grandsons had C/P i put the lotion in an clean pump action stray plastic bottle warmed it up a little by putting the it in a bowl of hot water and strayed it onto them,
much kinder and not so much waste :)
As already said icelollies are great for there mouths and comforting too ;)

Try some Medised as this will help with the itching and also will help with the pain. Try cool baths as this also helps.

Poor little mites.

Hope they both feel better soon.
