I have seen a 'Flower' in a bouquet of flowers asked in the shop if they knew what it was called(in supermaket) just wondered if anyone on here may know - it looks like purple broccoli on a long stem!!! Anyone??
Sweep

Will phone my friend who is a florist and get back to you

Sounds like a member of the onion family, was the flower head round?
Alium? Lots of tiny star shaped flowers shaped like a ball?

Really difficult to explain - Imagine purple broccoli, more sparse though, not really any flowers more like small crinkles - that sounds mad. I am going to take my camera to the shop and take a pic then take it to a florist I think.........!!!

I phoned my friend and everything she described didn't sound like what I was thinking of. From your description we are thinking of the same thing, but that isn't much help is it. Almost like a leaf/foliage rather than a flower

There is a annual plant called a cabbage plant, often used in hanging baskets and tubs, but it isn't very long?!

could it be "ornamental cabbage"
Hi, could it be purple statice/sea lavender? Not sure of the correct name, but am searching.
Fiona
Found the correct name for what I'm thinking of: Limonium vulgare - but don't know if its what you saw. They do use it in bouquets alot though. I can't find any clear photos of it. Let us know if you find out what it is.
Fiona
Edited to add: found what I was looking for - is this it?:

When you find out what it is, Sweep, let me know ... I've just been sent some flowers for doing a homecheck (a real surprise because I was only helping someone out) and there's some in the bouquet! And I've never seen it before either!

Sweep x
Nightmare haven't been able to get hold of the Balloon lady who is doing the Wedding Venue - Have no outfit yet - only 2weeks to go!!!!!!!!!!
It looks a bit although not totally like the allium, as someone else suggested. There are lots of allium varieties so it may be a new one....it's hard to tell from the piccie even though i enlarged it....
