does every one like me have mixed emotions when a litter is due ? Bonnie has 10 days to go and we are so looking forward to it she had 4 pups last time we lost one at birth but the others thrived and she was a super mum..... I think I have a little last minute nerves that all will be ok ? i think we are just excited but anxious (SP) :) does everyone feel like this ?

I know how you feel. Carina is getting ready to have hers, this will be her second litter. The first time I was broken into when she was 5 weeks pregnant, she ended up on the garage roof 6 foot hight and fell of it and unfortunately two of the pups died at an early age.
As you can imagine, I am now petrified, but looking forward to the pups at the same time, she's started scratching and tearing up the paper for a number of hours but has now decided to go to sleep. so fingers crossed everything wil be OK by the end of today :d

Yes. I was excited and terrified at the same time. And when she actually began whelping, it was so sudden and with so little warning, I was too busy to be scared anymore, LOL!

same here when my baby started, I was there saying its ok baby good girl push, and oh good girl relax now....lol Then when the first pup was born, I was so happy I cried, I even rang my son who was asleep in the next room....lol I didn't leave her side for a second.. I was scared that she wouldn't remove the sack properly and that the pup would die, or that she would chew to close to the pups tummy taking the cord away...But she did so well I was so proud. It was amazing even one pup wasn't breathing right so she picked him up put his nose in her mouth and sucked, like she was sucking the fluid out of his nose , it was just so amazing, when she firt picked him up, I didn't know what she was doing, I thought she was going to eat him or put him to one side and leave him but no, she helped him take his first breath...Amber was the best mother I have ever seen....I am still today so proud of her..She is a loving caring, girl...and in five months time.. we will try again..:) don't worry it hasn't been back to back this will be her second heat since her Pups...

Oh please I've not slept since Thursday night and it's not even my bitch. A friend had her dogs litter sister 3 wks ago from it's previous owner who is cutting numbers down so goes via breeder for a new home for said bitch who's on 1 CC at present. The bitch comes here for a night my daughter delivers her the next day to her new owners a show home obviously but new to the breed and never had a litter ------ for 2 wks new owner is asking when bitch had her last season as she can't get the weight off her ------ previous owner on Feb ------- me so phantom pregnancy reduce her fluid intake and plenty of exercise. Fine great you think ------------------ NOT A CHANCE!
Thursday night I get a call just had the bitch to the vets as she has huge boobies and milk! Vet confirms she's in whelp and due any day now! Owners daughter takes bitch to work (she's a vet nurse and manager) scans said bitch ------- yep in whelp 3 pups found poss more very little fluid left vet estimates time of whelp Sunday, can you have her for us as daughter is on holiday as of Wednesday and mother has sold house and due to move in 3 wks? So friday 1 bitch 1 frantic owner very distressed about the whole situation arrive at my house and I had another bitch arriving for her annual holidays too on the same day! Thankfully all dogs get along and I set up cages etc in my bedroom for immenent whelp ------------------ I'd just like to say she's still not popped, she's fine, pups are still active, my phone is ringing day and night to see if she's had them and I'm going grey with big bags under my eyes with her scratting about everynight getting comfy!
Then to add to my stress levels today my dad is undergoing a lung biopsy for lung cancer or Asbestosis, the last time they did this 2 wks ago he died and they had to work hard to get him back so he wouldn't let them do it whilst he was awake again ------- can't blame him, he's already had a triple bypass after 6 heart attacks due to a genetic problem and now this.
So you can see I just don't know which to worry about most, Dad, or the bitch in whelp in my bedroom who's not my girl ------ but in all honesty I need her to whelp to keep my mind occupied for the next few days.

Blimey, Schip! Hope it all goes well for you, on all fronts.

She's a Spanish Water Dog, I've not used the male previously so can't wait to see what colour the pups turn out to be. By the way Admin they are all sold and of course about another 2 years waiting list is still waiting so I'm not advertising honest :d :d

I think with every litter I am excited and scared at the same time. Mabel is due on 3-4 weeks and I have already gong into pre-wehlping spending spree, new vet bed, supplies box restocked, new baby towels, and just sorting out the sizes to get cut to make her her very own whelping box!
bye
Gwen

Well at the moment I'm suffering with having no sleep for 36 hours, Carina still hasn't produced her pups yet and seems to think it's wonderful to kid me along, I do seem to remember that last time she spent 2 days getting herself prepared, wdn't. mind but I phoned in to have the day off work today and the other secretaries having tomorrow off. Boy they don't half pick their moments dogs, don't they?

I'm in the queue of anxious people for just under 4 weeks time. I've already had the panic attack when I wondered what we had been-n-gone-n-done! It's taken us years to get to this stage so I am excited but a little bit nervous about how we will cope. Does everyone else have to do the military planning with lists, shopping, booking time off work, schedules, room changes, phone numbers, sitters, etc?
I've started the shopping for vet bed & supplies and as per my other post would welcome recommendations of things I shouldn't be without.
I'm just holding out hope that as a cocker she won't go too far over as I have one meeting I can't change at work and I don't want to miss anything. We'll be OK as long as she isn't 5 days late!

The longest one of my cockers went was day 65, but it might as well have been 165 days, my other girl always delivers on day 60, so these extra 5 days seemed to go on forever!!
Once it starts to happen, you just cope, I think the adrenalin takes over!
Good luck

i am in the same boat as the rest of you wispa due in 7 days, after losing a litter with kennel cough i still every stress out about the whole thing, last week andrew had a phone from a puppy owner who andrew takes puppy class that the puppy gone down with kc,in the south it doing it rounds again,i throught having a litter in the summer may have killed this bug off.
